Let me ask you this OP. If the guy is the answer for UT why is he not the head coach somewhere right now or who will be beating a path to his door if we don't get him. I ask the same question of those who say we should bring Fulmer back. There is a reason these guys aren't head coaches right now and it's not because they have an NFL gig that pays 4+ M/yr either.

I never said he was THE ANSWER....I said if we did not get any of the top tier guys why not him....he raised USF from the ground up and had them in the top 10 regularly and can recruit South Florida area. So compared to the other coaches he is more proven. Now the situation with the student/athlete that led to his dismissal may be the answer to why he isn't a head coach. I would be disappointed if we didn't get Gruden or Patterson or Stoops but would feel ok with Leavitt and believe he could get us back. Also, I agree with your thoughts on Fulmer. If it was such a bad idea to fire him when we did why hasn't he been a head coach since?

Basillio's blog has answered my questions about Mora Jr.

"Bob Stoops and Jim Mora Jr. Both guys let it be known through back channels that they would be willing to listen to UT about coaching Tennessee to siphon more money from their current schools."

"Jim Mora Jr. is a guy who's got an OK at UCLA job but it's not the Tennessee job. Mora Jr. knows the South. His people have let it be known that he would have interest in talking to Tennessee. He's a defensive guy who has the look, the passion and the NFL pedigree. His ultimate dream job is University of Washington. But he’s not going to get a good look at that for a good decade since young Steve Sarkesian will win enough to keep those folks there happy"

The statement that his dream job is UW kind of contradicts what Tony said though.

FYP.

Agents love this time of year. They get their clients raises for doing nothing more than dropping a rumor about going somewhere else.

So what is so bad with him? I am not suggesting him in the top 5candidates but I would rather give him a chance over people like Smart or Briles....

Leavitt would be a solid and affordable hire. I brought him up on here a few weeks ago.

The scandal that led to him getting fired pretty much flamed out.

He shouldn't be top 5 but should get a look if we strike out with the big three (Gruden, Stoops, Patterson)IMO.

I agree he should be on the lower end of the list above Smart or any other up and coming coordinator. He did an Amazing job building USF from literally nothing. I would also take him over Petrino. IIRC He did best Petrino on the field when they were both in the Big lEast.

Your just a grade A douche....your the internet tough guy bc you realize that you can be a douche and hijack a thread without any repercussions. I suggested a name that is legit if we fail with the top tier and you don't have any viable input and just try to be a comedian. Hope your having a good day down in your mommas basements trying to be an instigator so you can hide your lack of intelligence.

Lol you are just way to angry man. Again with the intelligence comment, when you were saying shut my f'ing mouth and talking crazy. I made a joke, you got all mad about it. Mommas basement is very original. You got all angry and got more angry as I didn't respond by puffing my chest out. I never insulted you on a personal level, you took it to that level. And im the one lacking intelligence. Have a good one, try not to be so sensitive in the future.

if we do not get Gruden....or one of our other top choices, i.e. Peterson, Patterson or Stoops etc, how about Jim Leavitt. He led USF from scratch to a form idable opponent that was beginning to be a powerhouse. He recruited well and has the ties to South Florida....just throwin it out there....

The same guy that got fired from S. FL? Seriously??

No NFL experience. No way coming to UT. It is THAT SIMPLE!

I completely agree about not taking a chance, but this guy is proven winner and recruiter. He started the football program from Day 1 and took it to the top 5 at one point. I know he is not the big name hire we all want but he is proven....acnd he can recruit.

Sorry but top five at one point is not where we want to be. Granted it would look much better than our current situation. But we are Tennessee and we want more!

I agree completely and I'm just mentioning Leavitt if our other choices don't pan out.....I want to be excited about the upcoming year like we all were when Kiffy was hired. As much as we hate him now, the preseason buzz was awesomely intense.

I think he was contacted before the last hire and said he was not interested. Some of the glow has washed off since then.
