I am very sad tonight.

The memories will always be with us. The elite eight, our first #1 ranking, six NCAA appearances, beating #1 Kansas and more.

Folks - it's the contract. It's always about the contract. It's always been about the contract. There is no contract. Pearl did things wrong that voided the previous contract and smeared the Vols nationally as well as himself and his coaching staff. The players know it - that's why they act like they don't care half the time. Pearl refused to sign the new contract from UT because it forced his hand on issues he could not control relating to the NCAA final decision and future actions. The UT admin backed Pearl early on during the mess when he was winning all the time. Then they find out about a bump 4 days after the cry me a river press conference; start getting wind that the NCAA looks to be going after him hard; the media makes UT and Pearl look like idiots to fan the flames; and then the losses start mounting up against the lesser weights. Even the coaching results look mediocre compared to years past. Seeing all this, UT admin backs off trying to sign him and waits to see if he can get it all going again and what the AA is going to do - in that order. If he doesn't get it going right now - it's over. If he does well in the tourney they will wait on the AA. Meanwhile I am sure the phone lines are hot between MH, agents of high profile coaches, and the Trustees. If you see the ax fall quickly, they probably aready have their man.

It's amazing how often just throwing your hands up and saying "OK you've got me" will really save a lot of pain and suffering.

Mrs Vercingetorix and I were talking about Pearl at dinner tonight and my six-year-old son was asking why he's getting fired, and I tried to explain it to him (although I must say, explaining NCAA rules to a kindergartener is pretty challenging). And even he understands that if you get caught redhanded doing something wrong, all you do by trying to hide it is make it worse on yourself. He was appalled that a grownup wouldn't know that, and that he'd screw it up so badly that he'd have to stop being our coach.

As I sit here tonight reading all the various threads, posts, rumors, tweets, news, etc... all I am really feeling is sadness. I am sad for this university. I am sad for these players. And I am sad for Bruce Pearl. I love Bruce Pearl for the good he brought to a basketball program that was basically irrelevant. I love the intensity and passion he had for UT. I loved that when UT football was in some of its darkest hours, I had a d*** good basketball team to take my mind off football. I understand that CBP screwed up, BIG TIME, and that his mistakes have repercussions, some of which may affect more that just himself. I understand why BP will probably be fired at seasons end and even though I don't really like the idea of UT parting ways with CBP, I get why it probably has to happen. That said, with the news today that this is apparently a done deal, I am really bummed tonight. I know UT can hire a great bball coach (maybe not mike hamilton though) and that we have proven that we can matter in college hoops. I guess what I am trying to say is I know this isnt the end of the world but tonight I hurt for UT and especially these kids and this team. I hope we can rally together, we have in the past during dark times, and maybe shock some folks this weekend. This is just my little rant. Im not a Pearl lover or hater, just a Vol who loves to see his teams succeed, and tonight I am sad for my team.

This is probally one of my all time favorite post,I feel the exact same way.:cray:

All the Anti-Pearl imbreeds, get ready to be at the bottom of the SEC every year. I am sure you football homers will like to be in the spotlight again. To think we can go out, find a coach to keep us competitive is laughable at best. Jed ball, buzz ball, here we come.

This is an adult swim during these hours.
The shallow end of the gene pool is somewhere near Ctrl, Alt and Del on your keyboard. Feel free to play Marco Polo with the others.

Too bad the football team isn't any good right now either.

Like others have said, Pearl brought this all on himself, but it still sucks to see the curtain coming down on what has been the most successful run in UT basketball history. It really just feels like its over WAY too soon, and to see it all wrecked by something as stupid as lying about a violation that would have at worse led to a slap on the wrist is kind of hard to swallow. Oh well, we have at least one more game to enjoy these guys, maybe more, but after that, the immediate future looks pretty bleak for UT hoops.

It's going to be sad to see such fire and passion from a coach leave. I can't tell you how frustrated I was seeing Tony Jones be calm on the bench the entire time he coached (yeah he had a decent record, not my point). This man in a matter of 4 years turned this breeding ground of mediocrity into a nationally relevant program, and he did it with passion, which is what I will miss. Having a coach that went out of his way with the oUTlive program made me proud to have him as our coach, because he brought something different to the table.
Anyone who says that they will be glad when he is gone is kidding themselves, because the truth of the matter is, there isn't a coach like him available out there (yeah yeah yeah, he cheated he cheated, screw you) and there won't be another Bruce Pearl. Ever.

Can't help but wonder, when Bruce is home, sitting on the couch, with just himself in the room, if he says to himself, "Jeez how could I have been so stupid"!

The fact is that Martha Stuart didn't go to jail for insider trading, she went to jail for lying about it! :cray:

There is no doubt he will regret this for the rest of his life.

Say what you want about Mike Hamilton, but the guy knows how to stimulate a basketball program. Look at the transformation of our team, our facilities, and our crowd size since he has taken over as AD. Another point to look at is where he came from and how far they have fallen from grace since his departure. Wake Forest has gone from the upper tier of the ACC to a bottom feeder since MH came to UT.

Bottom line, the one thing I actually have faith in MH with is hiring a basketball coach so as much as I appreciate all the good Bruce has done for the program and will always appreciate the foundation he laid for our current successes, he made his bed, and while it may suck, it is time to be held accountable and I fully expect his resignation following our tourney exit within 3-5 days barring an elite 8 run or better. Which with our draw is highly unlikely.

We can only hope that you are correct.

I am sad that Coach Pearl screwed up like he admittedly did. I am sad that our ball team has this weight on their backs. I am sad with the timing and unprofessional nature of this event. I am sad that t Mike Hamilton has show clealy shown that he has no place on our schools staff. I am very sad that our school has such an unprofessional slug as Hammy who has been such an unabashed embarrassment for our team, our school, our fans and our home state. Hammy owes every student, alumni and fan of UT an apology as he is put on the next plane out of Knoxville.

Hammy, please don't emabarrass us further by showing up at the tourney.
