Co. K, 50th Georgia was from Brooks County where I grew up. A lot of Confederate veterans are buried in West End Cemetery, Quitman. It will please you to know that we got out of school on Confederate Memorial Day and went to West End Cemetery to honor them.

Colquitt County HS band's name is the 50th Regiment. Yep.

Most of my East Tenn civil war ancestors fought for the Union, but a couple of them for the CSA. One, Calvin Luttrell, was with the 31st Georgia; I wish I knew the story of how that happened.

My great-great uncle Andy ( Tellico Plains) fought on both sides. CSA until captured in the Vicksburg campaign, agreed to join the Union Army to avoid prison (and possibly get paid?) , was shipped back to Cleveland, TN and joined the 14th Illinois Cavalry. Is supposedly the only Union Army veteran buried in Colquitt County, Georgia.
