I don't understand LSU's demise.....

Unlike UT they have excellant coordinators on both sides of the ball and good talent. Orgeon should be able to show up and do nothing on sideline and win.

Hm. imo A combination of many factors.

- Weak recruiting on OL/DL for about 3 years
- Large amounts of attrition on OL and some on DL
- Lots of suspensions -- some guys are still not back
- Injuries, lots of them -- some minor and others out for season
- New OC
- Players apparently still don't know the playbook
- Lots of true freshmen, rs freshmen and sophomores on D

It was very apparent that LSU doesn't have the meat upfront when they played Miss State, probably not going to change for a while. Les did not leave the lines in good shape, and most of the OL guys that left should have never been signed.

There is no quick fix for the lack of beef, which has forced LSU to actually go to 2-4-5 defense at times -- no I am not joking. This has lead to the young LBs been exposed and being thrown into the fire. Aranda is a top notch DC, Canada is suspect but to be honest -- the line is in terrible shape. Karl Malone's son is a good kid but he really should be 3rd string guard not a 1st team Left tackle.

1-2 years to rebuild the defensive line, 2-3 years to rebuild the offensive line.

Not going to be surprised by a losing season.

If LSU has a 2018 that is similar to the 2017 they are currently having, Coach O won't even have a 3rd year.

And people want to hire Les Miles at UT why?

I guess because he is a "proven" coach. IMO, he's also "proven" to have lost it given how his teams performed the last 3 years he was there. Les Miles is the epitome of an underachieving coach - his teams were almost always way less than the sum of their parts. He also had lots of trouble finding/developing QBs. I those 2 regards, he's actually a lot like Butch.

Lots of people want a proven guy considering every hire we've made since Fulmer has been an up-and-comer.

Well, I can't predict the future but with that said, I just don't see LSU paying for 3 head coaches at the same time and that could be for 3 years or so.

Someone is going to have to come up with some money. As far as LSU, the window probably won't be back open till 2020-2021, and that heavily depends on securing the 2019 class.

If that's true you guys are back to the Curly Hallman era again. We could use some company at the bottom of the barrel.

Haha. Maybe so. We'll see. I am not seeing a short term fix and it doesn't matter who the coach is, where's the beef? Not in the LSU offensive/defensive lines. :)

I'm not going to be shocked by a losing season, next year might mean a little bit of the same.

Read the book Meat Market. Then you will understand.

How does he come off in that book? Just like a total clown? I don't know how Orgeron works on a day-to-day basis behind the scenes obviously, but I know he does nothing publicly to dispel the notion that there's not much going on between the ears.

Great recruiter of defensive line.

Horrible Head Coach.

Terrible sideline coach. Dumber than dirt.

Bad bad bad. LSU is in worst shape than Vols. We can get rid of Butch; LSU stuck with Coach O for 2.5 more years.

That's the component of his mistake I really don't understand. You targeted one guy (Herman), didn't get him, so you panicked and promoted your interim coach. Not a good decision and that's a mistake an AD at a school like that shouldn't make, but I see how it could occur.

What I don't get, however, is giving him that huge buyout. Who else was/is going to hire him (rhetorical question)? LSU is getting a relative deal on the annual salary, but his buyout is in excess of Butch's. The contract negotiation stage should have been a time to calm down, take your time, and get him to sign something that was a reflection of his market value.

They went all in on Fisher. Then they got into a bidding war with Texas, which is something you never want to do. It was doomed from the start and the Fisher angle was ill-advised - some would even say stupid.

The buyout, as the pro-LSU guys like to explain, is to give the recruits something to look at it. It's difficult to recruit at a high level when there are legitimate concerns over the length of your contract/size of the buyout. Recruits want to know they'll be committed to a coach who they know isnt going to bolt after a year.

Also guys like Jimmy Sexton are responsible for the negotiations, so that probably helped bump the buyout even more. It's a fact that coaching salaries & buyouts have trended up considerably over the last few years.

Mark Richt called and he would like his title back

Well for starters, he would automatically become the best coach in the East.

Secondly, he would fix our defensive issues.

Lastly, his offensive philosophy would be changed and up to date. He would have to in order to get another big job.

He’s not in my top 3 but he would definitely be better than a mid major coach....
