I was thinking about this during their promotional ad that played at the stadium and on TV where they say:

"We're not followers but we do have a leader" (showing Collie)

They will never admit it but the dog is NOT their leader as Aggies are completely OBSESSED with the "other school" .
A HUGE amount of their traditions- annoying, eliminate, or otherwise; are directly related to that other school.

I know the ad is intimating that their "leader" is Reveille; but they are clearly lead around by a nose ring and invisible lead by the school they absolutely obsess about. There is not a school in the nation that allows- nay cherishes, a single rival to live in their heads. (edit that West Point and Annapolis but that is a different circumstance)

Now they lose a coach from their most recently successful program to that head dweller?!?! Holy ****!
And right as that Head Dweller University is coming back into the same conference?!?!?
And right after that coach took you 2 runs away from the first real championship since the Roosevelt administration?!?!?

The Aggies joined the SEC to supposedly get away from the Other School but they clearly NEVER did.

Omaha was my first time spending a great deal of time with Aggie fans. I liked them - when they weren't doing the "Kentucky" stuff. Maybe it helped that I did not have to see their mass line dancing at their pep rallies? It was funny that our pitching staff that gave up the fewest walks and HBP by anyone in the SEC (by far) and they could never get into the BALL 5 trope.

The Aggies are never going to become a true national power in athletics until the "Let it Go" but it's so entrenched into their "culture" that they can't do it. It will come as a surprise to most in Texas, but the rest of the country does not view the University of Texas as any different than any other large state school. It works for "Us" (the non-Texas schools) and it will work for them as well.

We hung out with some Aggie fans this weekend after sitting by them in Game 1. Their fans were great overall. However, they spoke about 50% of the time about how much they hate Texas and kept saying that we would regret inviting the to join the SEC. They were 100% convinced that there was no way in hell that their coach would leave for Texas. I feel bad for them man. What a lying POS

Im sure they feel gutted today knowing how close they were with Sloss and how big of a part he played in that.

I'm relieved it's not us.
I remember how mad everyone was about Lane leaving. Imagine losing in the National Championship with Lane and him leaving for a rival like Alabama. There might have been some burning buildings. haha

A&M and their fans will make a HUGE mistake with this hire.

They will try to save face and hire a "big name" head coach instead of the best man for the job.

The best hire they could make is likely Josh Elander. Josh would be an even better fit at A&M than he would have been at South Carolina (who I believe made a big mistake with Paul Mainieri.

Dropping Josh into the current situation with his energy, experience, Texas ties and recruiting abilities would be a fire in an oxygen-rich environment. But the boosters and fans - at least the casual fans, would never accept it as UTexas has slapped them in the face with a steel gauntlet- at least in Aggie view.

I was ready to burn things when Fulmer and co blew the 01 SECCG and the pending trip to Pasedena. Can’t imagine if he left right after that.

I was thinking about this further, maybe Schlossnagle saw the "Aggie Life" as a toxic soup destined for failure after Texas and Oklahoma come into the SEC.

Think about this, we dealt with Aggie fans AFTER they proverbially moved to the new town to get away from their toxic ex. Their fans still suffered from BTSD (Bovine Traumatic Stress Disorder).

What will happen to that fan base starting this fall when tormentor follows them to their "new town"?

Schlossnagle has made this worse. However, Texas is likely the only job that would be considered a step up from TAMU. Especially a job that opened this year.

Had he gone to any other school, the Aggie fans would be upset but thankful that he took them to these new heights.

I also asked - louder than I should, does A&M have a song or cheer that does NOT have any relation to UTexas?

Don't get me wrong with this thread.

The University of Texas is almost as much a toxic environment as well and ironically for the same reason as Longhorn fans and boosters are ALSO obsessed with the University of Texas and have an unrealistic view of their power in college sports and their future place in the SEC.

Texas has the ability to become a major player in SEC sports but their environment kept them from dominating the Big XII. Until the jock sniffers are put back in their place - like Saban did at Alabama; Texas will never be a consistent power in any major sport.

Makes you wonder if the A&M rumors to the Big 10 were true. Bet they wish they were there now. They can’t get away from Texas or as you said, get Texas out of their heads.

Jim Schlossnagle showed his true character.

Jim Schlossnagle showed his TRUE character.
There is a right way to go about things.
He chose not to do that, he chose poorly.
He knew full well what he was doing the whole time.
The way he belittled that reporter was UNCALLED for, just because “he” couldn’t MAN UP!!
Coaches come and go but there is a right way of going about it.
He also knew full well how it would devastate the A&M fan base him leaving and going to their most bitter rival.
BUT, I do believe TAM will overcome this/him and be better for it by getting a better coach.
Texas on the other hand, they now have a coach who is a known liar, with ZERO character.
No way in hell would I let my son or grandson to have anything to do with this POS!
It will come back and bite him and Texas in the azz………..

Oh, I agree.

They fired Rick Barnes - a character guy and got Coach Hip Hop to replace him. Shaka Smart never matched anything Barnes did. Then hired Coach WifeBeater.

They fired another character guy Mack Bown and have replaced him 3x with hires that have seemingly had worse character than the last.

Now they fire David Pierce for a great baseball coach, but a guy that will have the appearance of bad character by even taking the job.

Schloss although a jerk left for the same reason TV wants to stay at UTsr and that is the AD. Sure I believe he will get much more money at UTjr but I believe the AD situation at A&M versus one he trusts at UTjr also has a lot to do with it.

I think all of our coaches believe in AD White and although we will have to continue to pay the worthy coaches I Believe most will stay because they see and trust the vision and leadership of White.

To me everyone talks about the concern to keep certain coaches but I am just as concerned if not more of keeping AD White.

Schlossnagle was not getting the support he was promised at A&M and he’s a longtime friend of the Texas AD from his TCU days. Anyone who didn’t see this coming wasn’t paying attention.

I shared an elevator at the Marriott with an Aggies fan the day of the championship game. He was basically offering me condolences that Texas was going to steal our coach and was emphatic there was no way the A&M coach would go to Texas. He was almost condescending in a polite way. I've thought a lot about that guy since all this went down. I feel bad for him and all the A&M fans. Most of the ones we interacted with seemed to be nice people. They didn’t deserve this.

Coach Wifebeater had me laughing for at least 5 minutes straight....

Texas is giving payback to A&M for when the straw vote on admitting OU and Texas into the conference… A&M was the only school to vote No.

Greg Sankey Then had a come to Jesus talk with A&M before the official vote

I was a soph at UT when Doug Dickey left us for the Gators. There had been rumors but we thought he was locked in here at UT. Talk about getting stabbed in the back! I feel for the Aggies. They played a good series and got stabbed in the back!!
Not at all the same. Dickey went to coach his alma mater & admittedly it was a mistake. He later returned to Tennessee & became a great Athletic Director. Schloss has a history of "love 'em & leave "em". aTm is better off & I.M.O. he won't last long in Austin.

Good points, but if he thinks the cesspool and crazy cult behavior in College Station was toxic, just wait until he gets to Austin.
