I feel like Nico has shown improvement

Doug Matthews said Sunday Nico is playing better as a freshman than any other freshman quarterback at UT and he was impressed with his play at Georgia despite being sacked 5 times which he blamed on the offensive line. He has been critical of this area all year, says more players should be developed to play offensive line and has relied too much on transfers instead of recruit, develop and play.
Obviously the bar he has set is pretty low.

I’m impressed with his intangibles . He’s never shown (at least none that I’ve seen) times of panic, or letting the moment be too big. He’s calm, professional and doesn’t act out when under pressure. I think next season he’ll set himself apart in the SEC. But he’s gonna need some help

I am not a big Matthews fan. Regardless, Nico showed some gamer qualities tucking it and running it when the field opened up in front of him. He dove through a couple of players to get first downs. Scrambled well around the edge for a couple of others. He's figuring that part out. His next step is learning how to look off to the first progression when he knows he will be going to the second one from pre-snap view of the defense. All good QBs do it, because they learn and are coached up to do it. Pay attention to it sometime, especially in NFL games. The QB looks first to the side of the field he isn't going to throw to before throwing it to the other side. Not difficult to notice

I’ve seen some people saying Nico only played okay against Georgia. I actually think he played quite good. He’s still missing the deep balls but the improvement from the Arkansas game and now is very noticeable. He’s a redshirt freshman, you can tell the pressure doesn’t get to him. If we go 10-2, 10 wins with a redshirt freshman starting for an entire season for the first time is impressive. He’s improved dramatically since earlier this season, next season it’ll be an even bigger jump. We should be thrilled to have him.
Im hoping we see a big improvement soon. He has played 9 games it's time to turn it on.

Nico has played really well for a RS-Fr iyam. Could he execute better and play more consistently? Absolutely he can. But to expect a first year starter to run up Heisman-like numbers is silly. He has played exactly like I would imagine a RS-Fr/first year starter would play.

Nico needs to work on his touch in the offseason. Throwing too high or too long without putting touch on the ball is his biggest issue rn. I expect that will be fixed in the offseason. Heup's O relies on deep ***** and unfortunately that aspect of the O has been limited by Nico and to a lesser degree the WRs this year.

SO IF the OL can improve as a unit, another year in the system will help Nico and the offense to become more consistent and maybe even operate faster. Then they can actually score 35-40 ppg like we have seen before in Heups system.

We are really gonna see what this coaching staff can do next year. They will have nothing but their recruits and transfers in place. Can they take the next step? It's really gonna come down to the OL and how it comes together by next fall. I think the D will continue to improve overall, despite losing some key DL in the middle. Can they get more depth in the backend of the D? That was a glaring weakness in Athens. Lbers and Secondary were exposed and I think that's why the DL didn't have a great game. That's why Banks chose to sit back and try to generate pressure with 4. I would have preferred more pressure, but they didn't ask me.
No he hasn't really but part of it is the OL. The OL is bad so he needs to use his legs more and not be a pocket passer.

Nico might get you a good quarter or if we’re lucky maybe one half. Full game not yet. I keep hearing all his upside. Really don’t see it. Holds the ball too long. Stares down receivers. SEC defense scares him. Hope he adjust to the speed of the game. Coaches call conservative plays due to his growth in the offense. He has his moments. Just not ready for the big stage. Roast away JMO.

Yes, all of that. Young one. That's why we should run the ball more, which we are elite when we"re running a mix like we did on that TD drive in the 2bd Qtr. Almost all OCs like to get too cute. Even in the NFL. Ravens' OC took a beating today from former players who are analysts.

We must run the ball more if we want to win in the playoffs

Nico does not have a WR1 to throw to and his offensive line is better at run blocking than pass blocking.

Not entirely sold on Nico. He’s got time to get better. Has thrown for 300 yards once this year (UTC). Has thrown for over 200 once in an SEC game (Kentucky). Has to learn to throw it away and avoid the negative plays. My main concern is accuracy. I can’t remember ever seeing a quarterback that was not accurate learn to be accurate. It seems to be one of those things you have or you don’t.

Every year since Hooker left, we have praised the potential of the WR. It never comes to fruition.

It seems that we only have two areas that really develop players and wr ain't one of them! It seems that
the wr position has regressed players. Remember the talk of Donte, Bru, Brassell, White, (not to mention Staley and Mathews) being the best receiving group in the country? Nah, for some reason we don't get the potential out of them. It's coaching.
The league has caught up to this ""fast tempo" fake news.

Nico is clearly making progress. WR's and Oline have been very average this year and not helped him. Fans have to remember he is a RS Fresh in the SEC. I believed we're the only top ranked team in consideration for playoff spot with a QB this young. That's a good sign.

People can evolve and grow. Nico is fine .
