I Find Myself Torn.

And then the people that follow players to champions, rather than sticking with one team, somehow think they're entitled to bragging rights for taking the easy way out. It doesn't really offend me, I've just always found it amusing.

It also allows "player fans" to pick and choose which teams to follow. As a KU fan, I could easily say that I am a fan of the Heat because Mario Chalmers hit the shot in the National Championship Game; I could just as easily say I follow the Celtics because of Paul Pierce; or, I could follow numerous other teams due to Pollard, LaFrentz, Vaughn, Heinrich, Arthur, etc.

This could just as easily be applied to football: Chiefs for Berry, Colts for Peyton, Ravens/Browns/who knows now for Jamal Lewis, etc.

For me, the argument just rings hollow.

That is honestly how it went down for me. I was just in Kindergarten when we won the National Championship. I actually remember the night of the game my parents trying to explain to me the signifigance of the win, I just did not understand. The only Tennessee games I saw in person at that time were the Vandy games in Nashville. The following year was the first time I was truly exposed to sports. It was the Titans inaugural season at LP Field, and my parents took me to every home game. I quickly caught on to the game and learned to love all things Titans football. The only thing that kids at my school would wear were Eddie George, Jevon Kearse or Frank Wycheck jerseys. Looking back, everything about that season was special. From going undeafeated at home, to the Music City Miracle, to falling one yard short in the Superbowl...

I was at that game

I don't have an NBA team or NFL team. And I kind of enjoy that. I like certain players (Peyton Manning, DeSean Jackson, Ray Lewis) and want them to be successful. I like the Colts and their whole organization, so I guess you can call them my "favorite" team, but I don't claim them. If that makes sense.

The NBA, I just like certain players. Deron Williams, Brandon Jennings, LeBron James, Blake Griffin. I like watching them play.

Now MLB, it's always the Braves. My AL team is the Tigers, but there is no doubt the Braves are my team. It's probably the only team I have trouble staying unbiased with.

Speaking of bad teams, and sort of related to the original topic, I feel that it is my duty to support the Carolina Panthers since I am moving to NC next year. It is too bad that they drafted Newton, but a very good thing they rarely play the Titans. I don't really see a pressing need to choose between them.
