I get "it"

while i admit i thought there was a greater disparity between the two (the 2013 classes were ignored), i emphasized that tennessee was a dumpster fire due to the coaching carousel (which caused serious attrition, leaving the roster decimated).

Also, Auburn's players, for the most part, were recruited for Malzahn's system. Ours weren't recruited for Butch's.

Auburn hasn't exactly been stable since 2008.

seriously? they were the definition of stable, when compared with tennessee. while they were winning a national title, we were on our 3rd head coach in 3 years. that was followed by almost our ENTIRE coaching staff bailing on a lame duck head coach. even their new hire provided more stability BECAUSE HE WAS THEIR OFFENSIVE COORDINATOR THE YEAR BEFORE. you cannot reasonably think it is a fair comparison.

So UT's average was roughly 12 and Auburn was 10. That beatdown last weekend didn't equate to a 2 place recruiting difference.

Imagine how much better Jones's offense might look this year if he had a full complement of upperclassmen whom he had recruited himself to run his own system. That's what Malzahn has at Auburn.

According to rivals recruiting rankings:

2009
UT #10 and Auburn #19

2010
UT #9 and Auburn #4

2011
UT #13 and Auburn #7

2012
UT #17 and Auburn #10

2013
UT #21 and Auburn #8

over the past 4 years that would make them an average class of 7.25, while UT was 15 (including all 5 classes, it's 9.6/14).

Gus Malzahn gets it in year 1.

They had some pretty good classes the last few years, not putting Dooleys last two classes down by no means. But I can't remember talking about recruits like this years in awhile. Just saying not throwing stones..Go Big Orange..I really think CBJ is on the right track

I get that CBJ inherited a steaming pile of crap and that it will take time to clean up.

I get that he needs to be given a chance.

I get that coaching changes have put us where we are today.

What I don't get is why it is not acceptable to be upset when our beloved Vols get humiliated 3 weeks in a row.

Do we need to fire the coach? No.
Do we need to bench seniors? I don't think that's our call.

CBJ is calling his players to a culture change from losing and the loser mentality to the winners mentality...a championship mentality.

So, I think we as fans need to change our attitude as well and stop making excuses, show some passion, be disappointed and upset as "heck" when we lose...but still support the team.
Losing sucks and it is ok to admit that and want better!

Well because if you TRUELY get "it" and understand where we are right now...you should set realistic expectations and not go off the deep end when we lose to top 10 teams. We all love our VOLS...and are not "lowering" our expectations...but simply looking ahead to an influx of talent over the next couple of years to realistically compete with the big boys week in and week out. We WILL get there!

This is a complete logic fail of epic proportions. Their situation isn't even in the same galaxy as UT's was when they hired Butch Jones. Stop being butt hurt that Auburn is good and we're not and think before you post.

So, basically you gave more excuses...

Great post. He is either ignorant when it comes to college ball outside of UT, or he is mentally deficient. Either way, I feel bad for him.

The way I look at it is Dave Hart had every opportunity to make the right hire. Assuming Hart did a good job its not unreasonable to expect some instant improvement given how badly the team underperformed the past couple of seasons. If they make a bowl game then there's something. If the finish with 4 or 5 wins then I'd say that the jury is still out.

Obviously you and others do not get it!!!! Coaches are paid to win games pure and simple! It has nothing to do with liking the coach! This year is over! I am willing to give them three years as long as they do not have another year "1" next year!

You don't get it unless your goal is to undermine the efforts of our University, football program, football coaches, and football players. If this is your goal, then you get it.

Leave out 2013 and add 2009 to help your argument.. Lol

If that doesn't show the desire to "win" a debate while being negative to your own team, then you my friend are intentionally blinded.

Upset is one thing. Knowing how to respond is another. One does not check the weather and then kick their dog because it rains.

well one additional tiny little factor is that malzahn chose nick marshall to run his offense, while CBJ chose ... peterman.
