Hat,

Curious on your thoughts about Damon Archibald. A friend of mine coached with him at one of his previous spots and I know that he interviewed the same year Forbes did. It was my understanding that a deal was almost finalized, but there were some allegations of 'AA problems that arose at the time about the staff he was on at ISU (never materialized) and they took Forbes.

You may have covered this back then, but I have only been on here for about a year. Just curious know much about him.
It would have been really hard to hire anyone associated with the mess Wayne Morgan made in Ames. I was big on the idea of trying to hire Jay Spoonhour or Rick Brunson at that point.

Several of us around here have constantly bemoaned the mediocrity of Pearl's assistants. Well, I've got a possible answer. It is apparent that Pearl is philosophically wedded to his system. Thus, it would only make sense to add a guy who coached said system as well as anyone ever has. That guy? Former Cleveland State coach and current Indiana Pacers scout Kevin Mackey. The move works on two levels. First, it gives Pearl the kind of experienced tactician that most quality staffs possess. Also, it would play well with the media, thus getting the program some positive press. Everyone loves a good redemption story and Mackey returning to the college game would be right up there. Not sure if he'd be interested, but it can't hurt to ask.

I'm guessing no connection whatsoever...

Mackey was an assistant at BC under Davis while Pearl was a student assistant.

I read an article once that stated Mackey and Pearl still keep in contact and that Pearl has even received "trapping" tips. If I find the link I will posted it. Interesting read.

Same as it ever was. On top of that, my flight out tomorrow has already been cancelled. Oh, joy. The thought of an extra day in Newark has my heart aflutter.

Flew through Newark before Christmas. Never again. All four flights were at least 90 minutes late.
