Go to Vanderbilt, UAB, UT Memphis or MD Anderson or another tertiary medical center. You can and will be likely becured AND save your voice. I don't think the fact that you have AS has anything to do with treatment choices.

Yet another reason us complete strangers are like family sometimes. Gotta love Volnation.

True, G'mule is like my brother, known and respected him for years, just never met him.:)

But he is licking this and we are partying before the LV game he chooses this year! Weezy is invited, you can come too, Joe. Mule has a thread in the LV forum.

As ever,
Go Lady Vols!:dance2:

Did I get it right this time, Mule?🙏🙏🙏💕💕🙏🙏🙏

Were you able to schedule with Dr. Tigner? I'll tell him I referred you to him, but you'll have to tell him you're the VN Mule, lol.

the oncologist told me that they use to treat AS with radiation therapy and that it locked up the joints as hard as a rock, that is what will happen to my larynx after the treatment and that the odds of that happening are very high,he did say greater than 80%

and throw in the fact that AS will make the surgery more difficult, due to my neck not bending hardly at all

and I've dealt with the AS probably around 25 years or so

I have dealt with AS for 25 years as well. I think I've been a lot more fortunate than a lot of AS sufferers. I think mine has about ran its course and my symptoms have waned dramatically. I still have pretty good range of motion and the flare ups are further apart now.
I realize you know what real pain is GM and hope get through this with ease

not yet,I'm having problems with my ENT and oncologist, it seems they haven't quite figured out what there doing or are not communicating good with each other or me

I'm trying to get a 2nd opinion and see what they have to say,so I'm not sure if I need a referral or not yet,but I will keep this in mind

and no problems about being a Vol fan :hi:

Yes it does..... the first ten years were the worst. The sacroiliac inflammation and the sciatic nerve pressure was absolutely excruciating at times. I slept on the couch numerous times to avoid walking upstairs to the bed. There were days I thought I was going to be crippled.

I know the feeling well Carl,I still have major flare ups,but nowhere as often as it use to be,I still will go for days laying in the bed and try not to move,i use a cane for those, but I actually need a walker, when it is flaring up

I hate when the weather is constantly changing and you well know how smoothly that goes in Tn lol

since my back has locked up,it isn't nowhere near as bad,two things about it bother me the most,If I lose any more range as far as being able to move my neck anymore,I will most likely have to give up driving,I'm fairly dangerous now,i do look for red lights and 4 way stops, just to be safe :) thank goodness for those little round mirrors, they help a ton

and the scary one is my rib cage locking up,that happens some times as best as I can tell

all I can say is that getting old isn't for wussy's :)

I dunno what insurance you have, but usually they're the reason you would need a referral. If they don't require you to have a referral to see a specialist - I wouldn't think you would need one. Just call them and ask if that's possible.
