I have zero doubt this team will continue to improve!

We still struggle with too many players in the rotation

Really? Golden, Richardson, tatum, mcbee, McRae, Woolridge, stokes, maymon, and hall. That is 9, and Woolridge and McRae played 10 or less I believe. Do you wanna go with just 5 players. Tatum played 42 freakibg minutes. Rotation being too crowded is our last problem.

That's a problem.

Also, I'm 97% sure we will not see Tatum continue to improve.

That's exactly my point. Learning how to close games out is a priority for this team. You can see a stark difference in how they play before and at the end of close games. Example is OT against UGA. They seem timid as if they're looking for someone to step up and take the lead. I've seen this in a lot of teams over the years at different levels of play. If and it is a big if, they pull out that thus far elusive close win it could be very big for this team.

If we corrected the things that are easily correctable we wouldn't be in half these close games we'd be dominating those teams.

Of course! I'm not saying this team is great or even really good. They're limited talent wise. But they show a lot of grit and heart and they play hard. A lot of those mistakes they make are due to lack of talent. But that heart and grit along with some confidence would make this team a lot more dangerous and thus more fun to watch.

Heart and grit won't beat Uconn or other top teams if you don't play fundamental ball. The reason we lost against uga was because if 20 turnovers, horribly timed turnovers, and a lack of defense at the end. Heart wouldn't fix any of those things, we didn't lose because players weren't trying. We lost because we didn't take care of the ball, I think this team plays plenty hard most times. We are challenged talent wise obviously but if we play defense the way we have the last 4 games the only thing keeping us from some wins are turnovers and offensive execution.

Like I said, lack of talent causes a lot of problems, turnovers included.
And they do play hard as I said. But they get timid at the end of close games.

Well I hope they fix it and can win some games no matter what the problem is. If they'd play like they should for the first 38 minutes they wouldn't have to worry about the last 2 minutes in most games.

Of course I agree with that. But a lot of the turnovers IMO come from lack of talent. Lack of speed, ball handling etc.

dane bradshaw begs to differ. the guy holds one of the best assist:turnover ratios in tennessee history, in fact id be very interested who can name a player that averaged as many assists as he did and as few turnovers. and he was perhaps the most unathletically and least talented players to roam the court for tennessee. if you play smart, fundamental basketball you will very rarely turn the ball over most turnovers are caused by bonehead mistakes.

Do you not consider smarts a talent?

Not talent when we're referring to basketball, would bill gates make a good PG. Look at Derrick rose couldn't pass an sat but is one of the nba best PGs. Playing snart though can compensate for a lack of talent. Dane is a perfect example of this.

If you don't think this team has heart, then you don't know what heart is. This team doesn't quit.

They got punched in the face and literally laughed at in Memphis. They quit. Flat out quit. Hell, Maymon quit running back on defense at the end of the game. If that's not quiting I don't know what is. And the lazy effort most of them trot out shows what kind of heart they have. I have yet to see this team leave it all out on the court.

It says a lot that their best player (Stokes) really doesn't have any idea what he is doing out there yet, and still manages to put up good numbers just by being smart and using pure athletic ability. The defense has become really good and the hustle is definitely there. They play harder than any of Bruce Pearl's last 2-3 teams.

This team needs a true point guard. If they get an elite PG, they will be phenomenal with 2 years.

The kid has played in 2 games and you have already anointed him the best player? Really? He might be, but come on.. I guess you are one of those guys that worries about the Yankees' season if they lose 2 of the first 3 games.. :whistling:

That's where you and I disagree big time. I consider basketball smarts a talent. And with your comparison of Bill Gates you're comparing apples to oranges. There's a HUGE difference in intelligence and basketball smarts.

The fact that players came out and said they played too soft would definitely back up his statement.

In the Memphis game they looked more overwhelmed than soft. That game and the Austin Peay game are 2 that I put totally on the staff for not having them prepped. But to say this team doesn't play hard and has no heart is just wrong. Period.

The players said they played soft how are you can dispute how the players said, talking about THEMSELVES, played? Makes no sense!

So you're saying Pearl recruited players with no heart?
