I hope Kennesaw State is really good.

The East was a one horse race, and UT was no closer to anyone else. If you want to be wowed, then so be it. I'd say you will be well pleased with the trod and plod bball you'll be watching the next few years. Enjoy.

They were nowhere close to anyone else, but they ended up in a 3-way tie for 2nd with 2 other teams from the east? And we had the tie breaker?

I'm glad you are so knowledgeable and that you have a crystal ball. Thank you sir for letting us see the future, we appreciate it. We could really use your intelligent posts over in the basketball side of, besides whenever we have a "bad" performance during our first game of the season.

Guru alert...we were second in the East. Actually there were no divisions last season so we did in fact come in second on the SEC. I suspect you are a casual fan. Trod and plod ball? I was a huge Pearl fan (still am) but his final year and the second half of our exciting Elite Eight year was what you would consider "trod and plod" ball. C'mon now. Your seriously writing off CCM because of last year and one game into this season? I do apologize about the earlier sarcasm but your comments are mildly ridiculous.

Whoa, I had a brain fart about the divisions being gone last season. Dude clearly doesn't know what he's talking about.

Which is a better accomplishment - finishing second in a meaningless conference division or making the NCAA tourney?

And frankly, what makes Martin look even worse is actually finishing second in the conference and NOT making the NCAA tourney. That takes a special kind of coaching.

Incorrect. Anyone that backs up outlandish claims with BS usually gets flamed. That's actually only you.

It's actually pretty simple. Good SEC record = top 3 finish, mediocre overall record = no dancing.

UT IE, I don't really want to get into this with you because if the arguments in your own fail thread doesn't help you see the error of your judgement, I highly doubt mine will either. The goal is to always make the tourney and the hope is to be the last team standing. Whether Bruce was coaching last year or Martin, the way we finished the season (excluding postseason) was pretty incredible. Injuries and depth bit us in the butt at season's end. We have reason to feel optimistic about the direction of the program. You are entitled to your opinion though. We will just agree to disagree.

Why would you exclude the post season?

Why would you exclude the post season?

I mentioned in the post "injuries and depth." I'd say a hurt Maymon and Golden will greatly affect outcomes of games, specifically, the post season. I was just as disappointed as the next Vol fan of not making the tourney and losing to MTSU but I'm not short sighted either. Every coach will have growing pains during his tenure, most likely during the beginning of his era. I chalk the beginning of last season to that. End of the season loses we're injury laden. It's been too small of a sample size to throw the towel in on Cuonzo just yet.

The only thing ridiculous is when you start name calling another poster simply because they don't agree with your assessment.
A casual fan? What the heck does that mean. Are you a 'serious' fan? Maybe you can put that on your resume.
Hey, if you want to be impressed with CCM's first year, then by all means, go for it. I am not. If it makes you feel better to call me ridiculous or casual, because we don't agree, then go for it. If you want to pump sunshine after missing the tourney, and then losing to an in-state directional school, and Austin Peay, then so be it.

Lets not get into a pissing match. I do apologize if your feelings were hurt. "Serious fan," too late, it was already on my resume. Kidding aside, but don't take that too personal. By casual fan, I meant that it seems that you don't know too much about college basketball. Maybe surface knowledge? Surely you didn't really think that Tennessee was going to adjust to a whole new scheme on offense and defense and take a bunch of then-unproven players and make the NCAA tournament? That was my hope, but was skeptical of it actually being reality. The NCAA was still looming and we lost both recruits (one now a JUCO-AA) along the way.

We weren't a .500 ball club and we were one of the First Four out. I saw improvement as the season went along. Was I "wowed" by losing to the teams we lost to? No. In the bigger picture of the program and it's direction, yes, I was wowed. At the time of Martin's hiring, I figured it would take much longer than year 2 to get us to a position where we are projected as a pencil-in to the NCAA tournament. I know that isn't going to change your pessimism. Like UT IE, you are entitled to your opinion. I'll just agree to disagree. No need to hijack the thread for several pages going at each other.

Werll, technically, I don't think Middle Tenn. counts as a directional school.

You're right, it takes coaching to improve the team over the year. That's a sign of good coaching.

Sorry, I shouldn't have pointed out we lost 2 of the last 3. More of that BS I like to bring to the board.

You make an excuse for every win. Saying "only won by 9" what's the difference?

Beating uconn was awesome at the time, beating UF twice was awesome, beating Vandy in a must win was awesome.

Beating Kennesaw State by 9 in the home opener was disappointing, but a win none-the-less.

So why bring it up? It's the first game of the season...you do remember that pearl lost to a D2 or D3 team his last year during an exhibition right? I think it was Indianapolis by double digits if I remember correctly.

They beat PIedmont in and exhibition game by 40 and play their second game against South Carolina State tonight. I think they need to beat SC State by thirty for us to say they are a good team.
