Wish we could retire his number, maybe bit of a stretch but he was elite
And all 1,000 qualifications you have to meet for a jersey to be retired
Eric Berry is still.my favorite UT player but if we keep retiring numbers we're going to run out. I'd rather do like LSU and give it to the best player on the team or a captain.

The Vols need SEC quality DB’s and have for a minute now……but it’s time to step up for Tennessee’s defensive backend. In
Coverage and tackling!

Well, I gotta say, they certainly played elite 2 weeks ago. When Rattler wasn't being chased he had absolutely nuttin'.

I only wish he could have played when the program was elite and playing for national championships. Really, the same goes for Dobbs, Kamara, Sutton, Jennings, Barnett, Mayo and others.

All qualifications should be set aside for Eric Berry I do not give AF. He’s better than everyone whose jersey is retired except maybe Reggie White.

EB and Ed Reed my 2 favorite safeties of all time… in terms of rankings in all time of UT safeties for me personally I have
1. EB
2. Deon Grant
3. Dale Carter

Everybody else was at least a tier below these 3… I hope EB being back and honored inspires our dbs best game of the season. He was the definition of pure playmaker… big hitter always around the ball and threat to take any TO to the house. LEGEND.

I'm 34 and EB is the one dude who in my lifetime actually lived up to and surpassed the hype, as a player at TN. I'm hoping Nico is the next one. I love EB. He's probably my favorite TN player of all time.
Was a five star, and as you summed it up, played like a phenom since day 1,picked off Tebow twice, and his first int was taken to the house 95yds, I still remember Verne Lundquist saying "cya" I think that was Tebows only pick 6 he ever threw.

THEY were in the presence of GREATNESS...at its HIGHEST form...both ON the field AND off...

I recall an interview EB did back when his two younger brothers were playing. He was asked something about playing defense and his approach to tackling.

I paraphrase from memory:

“Most people slow down and brace for impact when they are about to hit somebody. Because they believe it’s gonna hurt. I actually speed up right before I hit and tackle somebody. I try to run through the guy. It actually hurts a lot less that way. Sometimes I can barely feel it.”

I’ve never forgotten that. Explains a lot about his success.
