I just realized while watching the recap of the last 2 mins

That Mashack got into position to draw the foul. Hit both FTs to tie the game (when both teams were missing them like crazy). Got the jump ball on Bamas possession that led to the 5 second violation. Then hit the 3.
Not only was that one of the best final minutes of play I've seen from a single player (in all aspects of the game) but it was by the guy that what, a month or so ago teams were barely guarding when he had the ball in his hands? Truly legendary.

Side note: Not to diminish the clutch shot by Lanier, but it is interesting that it was another crucial last seconds FT miss but it actually worked out in Tenns favor, being one of a couple of Bama mistakes that led to the win.
After hitting that shot, Mashack's walk away was powerful and epic.
It was like the end of a movie and the hero rides off into the sunset.

Right...of the options on the floor, Okpara is probably the only player Bama wanted to take that shot more than Mashack, and that was never going to happen. And it isn't a knock on JM, but Lanier, Gainey, and ZZ are just far more proven options. You're right that he could me more aggressive on the perimeter, especially if they are going to give him the open look. He needs to take a few of those each game until he proves he can't make it, or that he can't be left open.
Honestly, I would rather for Shack to dribble up the court and shoot from the “THE” than Lanier. He just doesn’t handle the ball as well as Shack. I’d talked my chance with Jamaal. From the three point line with time to shoot, yes give me Lanier. On the dribble from the place the shot was taken, Shack’s the man.

His attempts are also WIDE open attempts because he's so reluctant to shoot it. So his percentage isn't as comparable to a guy like Gainey, Lanier, or Zeigler, who all will shoot 3s if they're not completely wide open.

That said, I do think Shack is a good enough 3 point shooter that he shouldn't pass up wide open 3s, as he often does.
On the Ofer nights, 0-10 0-12, he should step in and take his shot. I think he hits 30% minimum and this team does not need to shoot 50% to win.

Don’t omit Mashack’s split second decision to take off dribbling toward UT’s goal. The play was to get the ball back to ZZ after the inbound pass but JM recognized that it wasn’t there because Bama had ZZ covered up. If JM had hesitated a 10th of a second or two then his basket would have been too late.

I don’t think I’ve seen a player do so many things exactly right in such a small window like that to win a game. It might be a once every 100 years type of event.
Or maybe 1:100 chance in a given year? Rare. Low probability.

Brilliant basketball in my opinion. And everything went right.
