I just realized while watching the recap of the last 2 mins

The funny thing was, Barnes looked flabbergasted that Mashack hit the shot. 😄

I'll be honest...I'm glad I watched that game alone. My wife was at her brother's house and I was cussing refs the entire game, then acted like a fool when Mashack hit the shot. Not my finest 2 hours of behavior...glad no one saw it.

Sounds like a perfectly fine 2 hours of behavior to me!

That Mashack got into position to draw the foul. Hit both FTs to tie the game (when both teams were missing them like crazy). Got the jump ball on Bamas possession that led to the 5 second violation. Then hit the 3.
Not only was that one of the best final minutes of play I've seen from a single player (in all aspects of the game) but it was by the guy that what, a month or so ago teams were barely guarding when he had the ball in his hands? Truly legendary.

Side note: Not to diminish the clutch shot by Lanier, but it is interesting that it was another crucial last seconds FT miss but it actually worked out in Tenns favor, being one of a couple of Bama mistakes that led to the win.
Mashack took the team on his shoulders and willed them to victory! True warrior spirit!

Don’t omit Mashack’s split second decision to take off dribbling toward UT’s goal. The play was to get the ball back to ZZ after the inbound pass but JM recognized that it wasn’t there because Bama had ZZ covered up. If JM had hesitated a 10th of a second or two then his basket would have been too late.

I don’t think I’ve seen a player do so many things exactly right in such a small window like that to win a game. It might be a once every 100 years type of event.

If I was the Bama coach I would have called the same thing; Mashack would be the player I would want the ball in his hands.
I don’t think it was strategic by Oats other than he didn’t want the ball in Ziegler’s hands going North to South. The guy guarding the inbounds passer did the right thing by denying the return pass. Mashack ended up being the guy coming to get the pass instead of Gainey. It looks like a genius move by Barnes to use Gainey as a decoy by having him streak down the sideline instead of coming to get the ball.

Being that Mashack just barely got the ball downcourt and got a shot off from 35 feet before the buzzer, it's fair to wonder what kind of look they get if he receives it, then passes back to ZZ.

It also hurt the effort to get it back to ZZ in that he couldn't move on the inbounds pass following the 5-sec call, unlike if it had followed a made shot where he could run the baseline.

Ideally you pass it back to ZZ in stride as he takes off down the court. With his speed he likely gets off a similar shot.

I think it is really cool that ZZ, Gainey, and now Mayshack all have had a huge game winning moment this year. Huge testament to Rick Barnes having his seniors ready for big moments!
ZZ's shot at the end of the Texas A&M game may not have been at the buzzer, but it was clutch and game winning for sure.
Would have loved ZZ to hit that 3 at Auburn, but that A&M shot helped keep our #1 seed hopes alive.

If you cuss the refs more than 20 times during a UT game you are overreacting.

Or another way of looking at is it that Mashack would only have to hit 20 out of his next 75 (26%) to come down to Gainey's percentage for the 115 attempts that he has taken this season. Or only hit 8 out of his next 47 (17%) to come down to Gainey's conference games shooting percentage. Shack has the best 3 point percentage in conference games (other than the Okpara anomaly) on the team at .444. If Gainey and Dubar have the green light to shoot, then Jahmai has to realize that he does also, and burn teams that show him such disrespect by not guarding him beyond the line. His shot arc and rotation look fine to me...just needs to be more aggressive and confident.

None of the above is an attempt to put down Gainey or Dubar, by the way.
Coach has always said that Mashack has a pretty shot and would like him to shoot more.

It was ZZ, and it seemed as if Steven Anderson saw and acknowledged it...he raised his hand...but then also seemed to realize that Mashack had already let the ball go prior to acknowledging the request for a TO, so he swallowed his whistle.
Imagine if Anderson is a little quicker and the ball goes in after TO is acknowledged and called. Then, what if, we go on to lose in OT. TBA would’ve faired worse than Lane Kiffin’s mattress.

My initial reaction live was that he could've taken another step of 2 and got closer but upon replay clearly he fired at the last shot.
