I keep thinking there is going to be a moment it clicks for Joe, but maybe I’m just wrong.

HH was a special talent. Joe Milton doesn’t have to be HH, but he needs to be better. If he comes out sharp, he doesn’t play the 2nd half. Instead, the Vols put their vertical passing game away and decided to win with horizontal passes and screens.

This may serve us well down the road when we fake screens and run deep, but at this point, could Milton hit the wide open deep ball?

Hendon was decent player before Heupel.
He wasn't some scrub. VA Tech coach is just an idiot. But he did improve under Heupel for sure.

Let's see what Milton does vs Florida next week

Would love for Milton to come out and have a big game. Obviously from a fan’s perspective, but I’m also rooting for the guy.

Good thing about Joe now is that nobody but nobody will toss his name into the Heisman conversation. Now you can just worry Joe about completing passes and not doing any Heisman poses. (and of course not all his fault tonight)

Most of its IMO wasn't Miltons fault if a D1 Receiver can get both hands on the ball he should catch it. Yes, there were some throws behind receivers some too high but if you are a top D1 receiver you make those catches when they're on your hands you make the QB look good. Sometimes the QB throws you open makes you look good it's a give and take, Don't go down the road of blaming it on one person it is a team game.

WRs dropped a few on him as well. Honestly, if there’s one thing that I wish he would do is that if the other team isn’t running a spy, and you have 20 yards of green in front of you, tuck it and run! That was an instinct that Hendon and Dobbs had that made them very successful. It’s 11 on 11, if you force the other team to run a spy it helps receivers get open.

This is fair - the WRs did him no favors. Most of the passes that were off the mark were catchable. Here’s hoping the passing game and offense overall has a great showing next week.

When I played football if our team had come out and looked so uninterested in playing we would have been on the bench for the second half.

The receivers had an off night for sure. One of those sports mysteries. But if they play like this against Florida, we will play in the liberty bowl.

The receivers didn’t help him any tonight, but overall tonight went a good way towards vindicating all the trash Michigan fans say every time his name comes up.

I was all in on the Milton hype this off-season but he kinda seems the same as 2021. I don’t have faith that it’s going to be a completed pass when it leaves his hands like I did with hooker. Escapability of the pocket is another issue. We’ll see next week though hope I’m proven wrong.

It's not like he threw three picks. I'll bet Bama wished they had Joe Milton.

How soon we forget! How many in here watched The Orange Bowl?

I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again, our season depends on how well Joe plays. CJH is not going to abandon him unless he makes mistakes that cost us games. That being said, the rest of the team will have to step it up.

Maybe Joe is a big game guy! I don’t know what it will take for him to play like he did against Clemson, but he does have it in him.

If it were going to happen, I'd have to think after this many years and with multiple coaching staffs, it would have happened by now. Seems to be a great guy. Fun loving. Likes to dance and flex when he does something good. Likely a fun dude to have in the locker room. Does he have the "it factor" that guys like Hooker and Bryce Young have? I don't see it. Wish him well, but I'm not sure he finishes the season as the starter. I'm looking at the offense and trying to find "the man", "the leader" when it's crunch time. On great teams, it's almost always the QB. Not trying to diss Milton here, but I don't see him as that guy that the offense feeds off of when things get tough. Really hope Nico has that trait. Only wish he'd have had a year under a guy like Hooker to learn from.

Florida is a pivotal game for Milton and his confidence. If we can continue to run the ball well and protect him with down and distance, and play with the lead, he doesn’t need to throw for 300+ yards, but he will need to hit the guys who are open and improve our 3rd down efficiency.

If Florida shuts down our rushing game we will be in trouble.

I hear you but I think this is actually a problem. Joe is scared to make a mistake, takes longer to make a decision, and always chooses the safest play. It will save some INT’s but miss some opportunities as well.

I think there needs to be some designed runs for Joe. Maybe that will allow him to relax.

UF always has athletes. Don't know if they've got DBs like UGA had last season, but we don't have Hooker, Hyatt and Tillman either. If I'm UF, I stop the run at all costs and put it on Joe Milton to make winning plays, and I'm not sure our OL can give Milton the time he needs to make those big plays. I also attack Hadden early and often and continue going at him for 4 quarters.

Milton is all about confidence. If he plays tight he looks awful. He has seemed to regress since least year but then again most of the time we saw him was during mop up duty when the game was won already and no pressure was on him
