we all should relish the total domination of this team to date:
- SEC regular season and tournament champs
- 4-0 vs Vandy
- 4-0 vs Florida
- 18-3 vs SEC East
- 11-2 vs SEC West
- Won all four games in tournament by 3 or more runs
- 53-7 overall
- won 88%+ of games in a sport where that‘s pretty much unheard of

Amazing.

I said it in the game thread, but it may be the greatest college baseball team I've ever seen.

The season has been so exceptional, that there is additional pressure to win it all.

Because, frankly, you're not going to see this kind of season again.

It's like 2019 LSU football.

We seemed a little tight in the early innings last night and today. But when they let loose a little bit, you could easily see their greatness.

I hope they can stay loosey goosey because when they are having fun they play winning baseball.

Great comparison. Sure hope this group seals their place in history like that LSU team.

You might be right but there is always one that comes along. Part of that rarity that you mention is due to team chemistry. No doubt this team is talented but it's that team chemistry plus a little bit of luck that makes you special.

Many of you have been watching this college game way longer than I have, and really I haven't watched baseball closely in over 20 years but you never how the ball is going to bounce. It's going to be difficult to beat this team twice but nothing is guaranteed.

Yep, 2019 LSU football is a once every 100 years event...

One fun part of Hoover today was that there were plenty of fans from other teams that stayed around. All of them were cool, just fans of the game. There were Arkansas fans sitting diagonal right behind me. They were far from the crap fans we are always reminded of on Twitter. There were 2 of the 100 Florida fans 🤣 on our row and they come every year from Memphis and knew several Vol fans in the area.

I will say the only thing that was universally mocked were UKs dances. 🤣

Basevols have made some big achievements, but they’re gonna have to clean some things up before they ever win a CWS. There’s no excuse for UF to have scored those late runs. Remember, there were another 2 runs for UK and LSU and a run for Vanderbilt. No excuse for that this late in the season. We’ve already peaked and are sinking fast.

I agree with much of what you wrote. But think the comparison with 2019 LSU football is off in a big way.

The key is what happens next. Recall, after 2019 LSU won it all, the 2020 LSU squad went 5-5, and 2021 LSU went 6-7.

As a Gator, you may be hopeful in thinking this Tennessee baseball team will just go away after this season. Fade into mediocrity.

I don't get that impression with these lads. Tony Vitello is going nowhere, and is one of the best in the business. And I don't follow baseball closely, but isn't this a young roster? Hear a lot about freshmen and sophomores during the games.

So, no. Despite your perhaps fervent desire that the 2022 season be a one-and-done kind of occurence, like LSU's football team in 2019, I think we're going to continue to lead from the front in college baseball, for years to come.

Go Vols!

The Vols just keep hitting and hitting and hitting. Absolutely astonishing to see. I tape the Cubs & Yankees games every night (for decades) and cannot remember seeing a pro team be so relentless at the plate. Kudos to Coach V and his staff.

Oh, and we have some purdy good arms as well......

Tl;dr translation of the above:

Amazing.
That would be a 143 win season in MLB. Best start I ever saw was the 1984 Tigers that started 35-5. That’s still under 88%.

We had an absolutely monster year in SEC play against some really talented SEC teams. I can admit that now that the regular season and tournament are over. The SEC will send 8 to the NCAAT I wish them well or most of them well.

I have seen several stats concerning the number of HR we have in comparison to the total number of earned runs by all other opponents combined. That number is mind boggling. But I have yet to see the season’s total number of runs scored by us vs. the total number of runs scored by all other opponents combined. I bet that number is equally as impressive. Anyone know those numbers?

I saw the same thing. I finally got tired of watching Sat. night game early 6th inning (I think) and went to bed. (couldn't hold my eyes open any longer) Had made up my mind to post about choking, etc. yesterday morning as I felt we were going to lose. Felt the same yesterday afternoon, but stayed awake watching the ending that we have come to expect. That being said, I have decided that herein lies the problem for me. This team has spoiled me! I have come to expect 2-3 HR's to open a game and from there they do as they wish. Playing a more average game (7-3 or 8-4 or god forbid 1 or 2 to nothing) is just more than I am ready for. GO VOLS!! ONE OF IF NOT THE BEST COLLEGE TEAMS EVER!

There is a lot of experience on this Tennessee team, but there a lot of underclassmen that have contributed as well, Blake Burke, Christian Moore, both freshman, plus the amazing talent on the pitching staff. If FA can help Ben Joyce with his control, and add another pitch to his repertoire, he could dominate in games as the closer. I don't think Tennessee will fall off any time soon.

His ad for Hummers is pretty funny since most of it sounds like about twenty words crammed into five words ‘IneedaHummeryouneedaHummercomebuyaHummer’:

You took the comparison way too far. I wasn't thinking that far ahead.

So, I'll go into the context of what I meant.

In all likelihood, Tennessee may have future teams that win a national title, win an SEC title, win an SEC Tournament Title, etc. But, even if they have future teams that win that kind of hardware (which would be great), they're never going to have a team this good.

Odds are LSU will never have another 2019 LSU team. The Chicago Bears will never have another 85 Bears. The Chicago Bulls will never have another 96 Bulls.

This is an all-time great team that makes all other teams pale in comparison.

Some of you have BVS really bad. I'm trying to tell you how special the baseball team is you have and you think I'm taking a dig.

I get what your saying, thanks for the compliment. This team will be the measuring stick for all great teams in the future, especially if they win it all.

It isn't BVS. It is you making an imperfect analogy, perhaps unconsciously, perhaps out of a degree of self-interest.

It's okay. No need to over-react to the correction. I didn't insult your lineage or anything. Just pointed out the fault in an analogy you made.

As for you noting that this team is special, thanks. Do appreciate it.

Go Vols!

Pretty sure he was talking about that specific season as the comparison and not what followed afterward.
