Josh has been hurt and got traded at the deadline as filler, and then waived. He has been in the NBA almost 10 years now. I assume his career is likely over.

Admiral got a little run with the Magic for a few years. But he is likely done with the NBA and will be full-time Europe.

Kyle has a good Euro career and was on the Canada team that won the FIBA tournament last year and was on the select team for Canada at the Olympics but didn’t make the final roster.

Chandler has been playing G league and doesn’t seem to have earned the attention of any teams. I suppose jsut too small.

Keon has been pretty good lately for the Nets. Look at his last 10 game stats.

Springer got traded at the deadline and cut for a salary dump for the Celtics. He did technically win a title last year lol. He is now on a 10 day contract for the Jazz. He will probably make a roster again. He is pretty good imo.

Grant got hurt as explained above.

Tobias Harris key member of the Pistons. And the Pistons finally don’t suck.

Man, I understand why he went, but I wish we could’ve had Chandler for one more year. That could have been THE year to win it all.

Kenny definitely should have stayed in college. At Tennessee preferably.
He left after his freshman year.
Dude would be a Senior this year and probably have a Natty on his shelf. He'd have some good NIL money, and be a made man in Tennessee as far as advertisement deals and popularity.
Way be than playing in the G league IMO.
Then again he could have tore his ACL or something and possibly never heard of again. 😏

He got a good amount of guaranteed money on his rookie deal, which was cool. And made his decision to leave not totally catastrophic. It’s probably more than he’d have made in NIL.

But it’s pretty brutal for kids similar to him around that time who could have made WAY more money staying in college than overseas or G-league if they had just known that the NIL shoe was about to drop.

Yeah, Kenny got a lot of money guaranteed. It was a record for a 2nd rounder iirc.
If it worked out perfect for him it might have still worked out comparably if he would have got a Natty and whatnot. Could still have went to NBA at that point, but not knowing for sure I would have took the money, too. No doubt.

I guess I was more speaking from a selfish fan standpoint. 😀

When you read this and think about what Barnes has done with THIS pool of talent, it extra unbelievable. Nevertheless, recruiting IS part of quality coaching in college.

Yep. Barnes has been a great recruiter of HS talent when it was necessary. I believe we have two highly prospects signed for next year. A 5 star who hasn't decided has us in his top 3.

Phillips gets a little run with the Bulls.
Phillips is the 5* HS recruit who most influenced me as to why it’s better to invest NIL$ in older proven college guys. I recall hearing Phillips got an $800K NIL deal and while he flashed his talent, he clearly needed another year or two to develop. Igor, Chaz, and Felix are all more productive this season and likely for less money. If you’re only getting a player for one season then buying the one who has the highest ceiling 5 years down the road doesn’t seem like the best investment. JMO

Look no further than Rutgers. How much money did that cost to be under .500?

I will say though. Arguably the best team in the country (Duke) relies on two freshman as their best players.

Castle was critical to the success of UCONN last year.

So there is still value in some super elite freshman players.

But mostly I agree that you’re better off on average to focus on older, more mature players.

What pains me is I think we could have made a deep run to Final Four had Kennedy came back for one more year. Any NIL deal for 1-1.5 million would have been worth it. Especially when ZZ went down. I get chasing the NBA, but it was somewhat clear he wasn't going to be that high of a pick so 1 more year at a high 6 to low 7 figure NIL deal would have been worth it. Especially in Tennessee

I don’t disagree that there are a couple uber elite freshmen each season who are solid investments for their one year. The closest we’ve gotten to that is Tobias. Chandler was valuable but at what comparative price? Seems to me there’s more value in the portal guys. JMO, TIFWIW

They’ve got 3 in their 9 man rotation and 5 if you extend it to the 11 who have played, they’re definitely an outlier…they’ve surrounded them with a lot of experience but still very young for todays game, will be interesting to watch and see if they make it far in March or slip up.

Yeah cause then you have Auburn that’s basically rolling out a team that qualifies for AARP

It’s probably just as simple as, Flagg is generational. And he probably is. He honestly looks like the second coming of Scottie Pippen/Grant Hill to me.
