I May Have Finally Found The Greatest Vol Game Jersey Of All Time.....

I saw it on ebay as well. I was thinking it was a practice jersey too (amount of mesh & no stripes on the sleeves). That is right around the time that I started to get old enough to really follow UT football, so I was thinking about getting that one myself. Nice purchase. Based on the pics of the jerseys that the guys was selling, he has one heck of Vol room...

Agree. The 89 Jerseys had fat letters for short names. 90 went to a standard size for all names. However, I don't think Webb wore a road jersey in 1990 (unless it was the O&W game). He played vs. Colorado in the Pigskin classic and we wore orange, then blew out his knee against Pacific at home.

Good point. Could it be one that he simply wore on the sidelines during an away game after the injury? It's not uncommon for injured players to still wear their jerseys even if they don't suit up in the full uniform.

I know this is an older thread, but I think I can help. That is not a real Chuck Webb jersey. Russell made the jerseys during his time there, not Sports Belle. I do have an orange and a white Chuck Webb jersey and one from the Cotton Bowl with the Mobil Cotton Bowl patch if you are interested.

Guys....any idea if this is a PRACTICE jersey???? I dont think game jerseys were all mesh like this one. Also....didn't Russell Athletic make the game jerseys when Chuck played? I dont think Sports Belle did. Any confirmation from you guys is appreciated....

I think you're correct. Here's a pic of Tony Thompson from the 1990 Miss State (I think).

As you guys know I have a huge collection of Tennessee game worn jerseys. I have been looking for one from this player for years....and I finally have found it. The only issue is....is this jersey a PRACTICE jersey? I dont think we ever wore jerseys like this in actual games while Chuck was playing. Even if it is only a practice jersey, Chuck Webb is my all time favorite Vol....and in my opinion....the greatest offensive Volunteer thats ever played in Knoxville. I am excited to add this to my collection. All opinions and comments welcome........

That is a practice jersey...I have a few of those from that era as well...Still a great find!

I believe white game jerseys from that era also had either one or two orange stripes on the bottom of each sleeve. Doesn't take away from the coolness of this jersey one bit though.

Really cool. I liked the old white jersey without the black outline on the numbers, but the black has grown on me and from your pic you can tell that it would have been harder to read.

LOL reminds me of Bill Anderson always complaining about not being able to read the jersey's.

Happily, I was at the Cotton Bowl w/ Webb running wild and sadly, I was at Pacific when he limped off the field for the last time.....Cobb/Webb was the best tandem IMO...

yep I had a perfect view of the tackle in the Pacific game. I felt like throwing up in fact I think I did. I remember just thinking "against ***** Pacific".

I was there also, when he got up and walked off the field I thought he was O/K.Sady not.

Here is the Johhny Majors show of that game. Injury comes around the 6 minute mark of the video.
