I missed this story: USA slowly becoming a debtors' prison

The thing is this;

Obama has taken $716+ billion from medicare to put into obamacare.

The people who have paid in all their life are being robbed.

What idiots like PK don't understand is that he is being robbed but that he doesn't understand by whom he is being robbed.

The fact of the matter is that all future generations are being robbed by this marxist administration but so many just don't understand the basics and are so willing to believe the BS rhetoric being espoused by Obama.

What is wrong with that? Are they not collecting the benefits?

This hole took a long time to dig. The middle class is responsible. When the time comes to pay for it, they want to run and hide.

It just sucks that your generation (at least I believe you are much older than myself) is profoundly f***ing over my generation.

Whoa... I missed this. My generation is screwing you? I'm in my late 30's... I'll probably not get SS and be left to pay the rest of the freight after everything collapses. And the tax burden on my generation and those after me will be huge.

We didn't create this mess, but we will be left to clean it up. That has been my point. If anything, you should be agreeing with me. You will be on the hook just as much as I will once the Baby Boomers finish this country off.

Should I have made a distinction between what you owe the govt vs what you owe the banks?????

yes, you should have

people walk away from private debt all the time and the only consequence is a messed up credit rating

No one is arguing that is how it is done right now. The fear is later on. That is why I said slippery slope...

Let me ask again, are you really making a distinction between what you owe the govt and what you owe the banks? Especially after what we know now about how our economy has been driven by borrowing and creating $$$ out of thin air? Especially after we saw the gov't bend over backwards to bail out the banking sector?

Really?

I suppose if you subscribe to the Alex Jones view of the world and that there is a coming New World Order run by a combination of the Military Industrial Complex and the Gnomes of Zurich that private debt would become debt owed the government.

I suppose.

False. You @$$holes have elected these morons for decades into office and sat around while they promised y'all everything without being able to pay for it.

My generation has only be able to vote once. Let alone, get out into the real world and shift away from emotional responses to politics to a pragmatic approach. Your generation cannot say the same.

There is a zero percent chance I will vote for Obama. With that said this is not all Obama's fault.

Several administrations and both parties are responsible.

You make a point, but hopefully, theoretically at least, that should happen to only a small amount of people and ought to be quickly rectifiable.

Is it fundamentally right for those who do not pay the taxes they owe to be allowed to travel overseas as they please?

I understand you asking the question, but it is awful rich(pun intended), for anyone in the federal government to speak of penalties for people that can't match their incoming to their outgoing.

you totally ignore the fact most people in the US wouldn't even know their tax bracket. They're ignorant because they choose to be. How many celebrate that great refund check the IRS sends every year without realizing where it came from? If you're making enough to actually pay taxes then you should probably figure out your rate. No sympathy

I actually turned down a school because it was too expensive and went to UT. I was 17yo at the time but I guess I just so much smarter than most. $80k is not required to get out and get a job, especially since many are majors in your favorite programs- liberal arts. If you spend that much money to get a degree in psychology or women's studies then again I have no sympathy. However, college just taught the graduate more in one bill from the loan company than they learned in 4yrs. Congrats on entering the real world

Aren't superiority complexes great?

Yes, because everyone within the federal government agrees and actively perpetuates fiscal insanity.

You're right, there is no irony here. Additionally, for something like this to be law, it was have to pass through tons of hands that are perpetuating this fiscal sanity.

There is a difference between a collective entity vs individual people.

Such is also the difference between a corporation and their employees.

You certainly seem to be trashing people for not being completely perfect.

not at all. If you actually read what I posted you would see I trash people for being stupid and irresponsible and following that up with asking for help from the govt to fix problems.

being imperfect and making mistakes is part of life. However I should not be forced to bail you out. The people mentioned in the post I quoted are adults. Act like it

How is having your taxes raised on you by the gov't a bad life choice that you made?

How is an 18-21 y/o taking advice from every parent, guidance counselor, preacher, etc. they have encountered in their life a mistake?

Interesting you would mention Alex Jones. I went and checked out what he said. Interesting piece.

how many people that owe money to the IRS were victims of some mysterious tax hike? Taxes suck but if you're actually part of the 53% that does pay you should be smart enough to ballpark how much you owe. It's not simple but should require more than a pencil and a calculator to figure out

18-21yo's are considered adults. Maybe they just learned a life lesson that the people they surround themselves aren't very smart. People smart enough to attend an $80k school should be smart enough to pick a major that's not incredibly useless in the real world

I'm not talking about "mysterious" tax hikes. I'm more concerned about an ever increasing tax burden that eventually over time will begin to squeeze on the middle class.
