I’m not referring to last year, I referring to what is going on this year only!It is year 3 ... and does Heupel get any credit for the development of Hendon Hooker and Jalin Hyatt and Byron Young? Those were not highly recruited players coming out of high school. Hooker had been benched at Virginia Tech. Did Hyatt look anything like a potential Biletnikoff Award winner in 2020? Did Byron Young ever play like an NFL draft pick?
Then you are being selective with your criticism of player development. All things considered, last year's team was much better than it had any business being. It raised expectations to an unrealistic level for this season.I’m not referring to last year, I referring to what is going on this year only!
Can you draw us a diagram of the difference between a fly route vs a corner and post route? Thanks CoachAre we the only team that doesn't run slants, post routes, deep slants, and corner routes? Along with some reverses, etc?
Seems like all we run are screens, bubble screens, and fly routes. We are getting very predictable on offense. I know our offensive line isn't as strong as it was last year. Just trying to figure out if it's Milton or a Heupel/Halzle issue.
True but the rules are different now. You can't get away with claiming a coach needs x number of years to rebuild a roster. The portal and NIL make that excuse much less viable. Heupel and/or Spyre(sp?) for some reason have been less than enthusiastic participants in the portal or they just aren't very good at evaluations? We've got a highly touted 5 star QB on the roster. It was an enormous get. We're not guaranteed anything more than the rest of this season with the kid. Not sure if he's the next great or next 5 star bust, but one thing is certain, he needs OL help in a huge way. To put anything else other than an all out blitz on OL via the portal is...well...negligent. No other way to describe it. We cannot wait for youngsters to mature and waste a single season with Nico as the starter. Hell, with the way our OL is playing, Milton might not survive the season. Heupel has to understand that time is not an excuse. Youth is not an excuse. Resources are not an excuse. Facilities are not an excuse. This staff has got to get it together and pillage the portal much the way aTm did a couple of years ago when they bought the #1 class in the country. Can't waste a talent like #8...assuming he's all he's reported to be.If you want to be even more fair about it ... It is not year 4. That guy is just wrong all over the place. This is Heupel's 3rd season.
You do know that we have had only 2 years recruiting under Heupel. How about we wait until he finally has built his team. We need to stop the ready, FIRE, aim mentality. And that's inexcusable for a staff in their 4th year. If you're young and thin going into your 4th season, you've failed both on the recruiting trail and in development.
Leave our poor coaches alone! It takes a lot of time managing and investing all those millions. They can’t be bothered with all that recruiting and coaching crap.True but the rules are different now. And I ask again, have you seen the rest of the league? Who is "steamrolling" Tenn? If its SC or Mizz, then you're suggesting Tenn is only beating Vandy for a 5-7 record. Just don't see that at all. If you're saying Bama/Georgia then we'll, many were thinking that wouldn't be far fetched entering the year but it's hard to see either of those teams steamrolling almost any SEC teams right now.Have you seen us?
I'll provide some pushback here and play devils advocate. Its year 3 and Heupel has only really had major success with... Pruitt guys. I know, obviously he only starts out with them. BUT his transfers have largely underperformed. If Pruitts guys were so bad (looking at you, secondary) why are the transfers and HIS recruited players not easily replacing them? You do know that we have had only 2 years recruiting under Heupel. How about we wait until he finally has built his team. We need to stop the ready, FIRE, aim mentality.
I would prefer that no one steamroll us. But watching this team play makes me think several could: SC, A&M, UGA, Bama, possibly Mizzou. And I ask again, have you seen the rest of the league? So who is steamrolling Tenn? SC or A&M at home? Kentucky who can't buy a win against the Vols?
I could be wrong on this; but I thought it was discussed with Hooker last year mostly due to his understanding/ability within the offense that there was more liberty on the routes essentially being choice routes, so it could be a lack of the receivers ability and/or the receivers playing in scope of what they do well? Example: Tillman did a great job of leveraging the field and his body to make that comeback route open, or Hyatt being able to blow the top off the safety, but internally my gut says we have a QB who just doesn’t read the field very well and he basically can only make two throws confidently. The go route and a sideline screen. Sadly, I think that’s where we are, and it limits the ability on what can be called or modifies what our receivers are runningI just posted this very thing in another feed. Joe is not thorwing the 7 yd out or the 12 yd comeback, or the TE down the seam. I do not think Heupel feels he can make those throws and is calling (or having called) a very vanilla gameplan for Joe. It is going to start costing us games as defenses are going to go 2 high safety to take away those deep routes and make Joe and the running game beat them.
Our routes seem to be just fine if the QB hits the receivers and the receivers catch the ball. One or more are usually wide open. Are we the only team that doesn't run slants, post routes, deep slants, and corner routes? Along with some reverses, etc?

FL beat us by 13.
FL beat Charlotte by 15.
Math can be hard.
