They can't fire him until the end of next season without cause. It's not because of a high buyout. There's actually a clause in the contract forbidding Mizzou from firing him without cause before then.
I wonder if he can be demoted or reassigned within the AD in the meantime?

Essentially place him in a support role and hire another coach. Paying him to fulfill a support role would basically be like paying him his buyout. This probably only works in theory, and not practicality as it would create tension within the AD and not a deep pool of coaching candidates will be willing to jump at the opportunity and have their predecessor still around on campus.

Is gross incompetence a cause? That said, his no firing clause ends May 1st 2020. He'd have a 6 million dollar buyout if he's fired between May 2020 and April 2021. Drops to 3 million May 1st 2021. I've never seen a luckier coach. He gets courted and paid like a top tier guy and he has never won an NCAA game other than his time here. He's left 3 schools, and I doubt you'll find very many fans upset about him leaving and Missouri fans will be the 4th group not upset with him being gone soon enough.

Yes, was aware of that, but unless he has clear success, he will be gone I would think.

You have to give the guy credit. He can't coach a lick and has no personality but yet he keeps landing multi-million dollar contracts and hits the door before he gets fired. It's like he has a string and all the athletic directors just chase it around.
