So the Negavols have emerged from their holes again to criticize our coach, during a bye week of course so I just want to take a moment to consider what Butch Jones has already accomplished this season in the hopes of drowning out the voices of madness.

Butch Jones has assembled a recruiting class that is easily the most talented Knoxville has seen in nearly a decade. Second only to Alabama.

He has already done something Derek Dooley never could do by beating a ranked SEC opponent and ending the losing streak.

He has positioned the team for bowl eligibility with only the Kentucky and Vanderbilt games left to play, despite playing a schedule that is arguably one of the toughest in college football history.

So some of you might be ready to abandon this coach and this football team after playing and losing to three of the best SEC teams in the country (all of whom have a chance to get into the National Championship game), but I am not. This team has already had every reason to give up on this season, yet they've continued to fight and battle every week in the face of insurmountable odds. I believe that we are going to beat both Kentucky and Vanderbilt, but even if that doesn't happen, the talent that Coach Jones is assembling and the brilliant coaching performance he showed us against Georgia and South Carolina (despite having far less talent) should give us all the hard evidence we need to believe that CBJ has was it takes to bring us back.

I believe in Butch Jones! VFL!!!

I'm not sure bUTch could have done much better with this team than he has at this point, looking back and seeing how brutal this schedule has been, combined with our severe lack of talent. Being a Vol fan with naturally high expectations, I can't ever call myself "happy" with a 6-6 season, but if we can beat these last two teams and get to a bowl, I think this is a good year for CBJ considering the crappy hand he was dealt. (Bonus pts for winning the bowl game)

I agree. I called 6-6 for this year. But I don't know about vandy.Afraid we'll lose that 1 and put us at 5-7 for the season. Jones is bringing in some great talent. I look for us to be 7-5 or 8-4 next year.

If we aren't winning a national championship people on Volnation will always complain. 1998 spoiled us

That was along time ago. It just annoys me that some people are still either defending Dooley or doubting Butch Jones, who has a proven record of success.

Regardless of what you think, I haven't seen any posters call for butch to be fired. People have been critical, which should be expected after any loss. So ya, everyone here is still full butch.

Vandy didn't look very impressive against Kentucky.

Wish it worked that way. Missouri didn't look impressive vs SCar and Auburn didn't look impressive vs Washington State. How Vandy looked vs Kentucky this week won't matter next week against UT.

I've heard people say that "Butch and co. should pack up and leave." That's essentially saying they should be fired.

But I guess you'll never be able to get rid of all the idiots.

I still believe Butch is the right guy, just not AS sure as I was after the Georgia and SCar games. How could I? Guess I'm supposed to not notice that we've lost, on average, by a 47-12 score vs our 4 toughest opponents. I find that difficult to do.

Nobody's calling for him to be fired or saying he sucks, that he can't coach at all. Just kinda scratching my head at how poorly the team has competed this late in the season vs our best opponents. Seems kinda human nature to me.

No.

This can't possibly be accepted as an opinion.

You MUST support Jones fully or you want him fired.

That's your two options at VN.

Seriously, I feel fine with Jones leading the way, I just hope he has the stones to take a long, hard look at just how poorly this defense has "progressed" this season.

I haven't seen any of the fundamentals improve over the course of the season on defense and team discipline has slipped a notch with the penalties across the board and repeated missed assignments, especially on the defensive side of the ball.

Anybody who feels everything is just fine with Jancek running the defense hasn't watched the last three games.

For me to call success he still has to get to a bowl and win it

2014: 6 -6 record (Wins) Utah, Arkansas State, Chattanooga, Ole Miss, Kentucky & Vandy

2014: (Loses) UGA, Oklahoma, Florida, "O Bama", USC & Missouri

Not going to get to 7 - 5 or 8 - 4 next season...... Too many freshmen and not enough depth

I don't think most of the non Butch crowd is against him because therecord isn't reflecting greatness. I think it's because of the way we've been hammered alk year long!

How the Hell do you know how talented they are when they haven't even played a down of college football.

Its called talent evaluation. Without talent evaluation, every national championship Nick Saban has won has been just blind luck and/or a crapshoot. But thats not the case. Saban has consistently recruited the most talented high school players in the country, allowing him to win on a consistent basis. Now we are doing the same thing.

We've recruited talent before that hasn't panned out. It ain't proven talent until it's proven on the field.

Everyone keeps creating threads calling out people who want butch fired, but I've yet to actually see any of these "fire butch" comments.

We have sensitive fans.

I guess so. This kind of thread has come a dime a dozen over this past week. I think at least some of them were just trying to make a hero/white knight thread and fish for likes, but it's getting out of hand.

What's more is that I made a post on the last one of these saying "look both ways before posting" and it got removed. Very strange. Conspiracy maybe?
