I think Coach Jones really gets it.

Coach Jones does realize that this teams roster falls short when compared to the roster of other S.E.C. teams.

He will need time to build the roster up. Possibly two or three seasons will be needed.

He also realizes that Kiffin and Dooley were not accepted by most of the fans. He also realizes that when the fans talk, the A.D. listens. Well, he may not listen to one single voice, but he will listen when a majority of fans speak. Thus, fans can literally get a coach run out of town.

So, he is "buying time". If he needs four seasons to rebuild this program and by season three, the fans are fed up, then he will be run out of town before the rebuilding is complete. However; if the fans like him, they will tend to give him the benefit of the doudt and give him the extra time he needs to rebuild the program....

Whereas, Kiffin came in by putting USC pictures in the locker room. Dooley came in by distancing himself from the former players. Jones will get the support of the alumni, former players, students, fans, and current players....by having a "Meet & Greet" with former players and by talking about how much he embraces the U.T. traditions..

This is exactly what's going on n said very diplomatically.. the only thing I add is 5 n 6 wins will not buy him time.. 8 wins n great recruiting n functions like this will..

I should have copy writed the phase Cbj just gets it...Cbj really gets it.. etc... did I miss any.. what a overused phrase on VN...

I get cbj n ut r in full blown PR mode. I get it..... I really do...lol

I haven't read the responses, but my prediction for this thread:

About 1/2 will agree.
About 1/4 will post the equivalent of "slow your roll (but I hope you're right)".
About 1/4 will post the equivalent of "we'll never win with junior league coaches".

Two people will get offended that our current staff was complimented, and turn it into a CDD defense thread.

im going to partake and be one of your stats  since i do like whats gone on so far but i will reserve judgement until winning or god forbid losing happens...not based on this season obviously my judgement will be more based on 2014 assuming we dont get some improbable wins this season

Rebuild the roster.
Listen, he has a top 5 O-line in the nation, with quality back ups. Worley and Ferguson aren't chopped liver, and he had to do nothing to get those guys. Croom is the next Calvin Johnson. Lane and Neal are servicable SEC backs.

McCullers, Couch, Miller, Williams, Walls, AJ Johnson, Magitt (when he gets healthy)McNeil and Randolph are better than anything he ever had at Cinci. And its not even close.
Next year will be a far tougher year than this, as far as the roster goes.
So, let's not act like he has a roster like Dooley had when he arrived. Bless his heart.

Calvin Johnson? I've smoked some good stuff man but you have to have a prescription for it :-D

CBJ is doing everything that's logical, and everything that makes sense, to build the football program back up and guide these young men during their education at UT.

If you aren't capable of seeing that, if you think he has an ulterior motive other than the statements I made above, if you think what he's doing is in any way a negative...then you're not capable of logical thinking.

This is the first real coach we have had since fulmer. Kiffin and Dooley got jobs because of their daddys. I, for one, don't think it should be all that hard to be successful at Tennessee. As CBJ has stated numerous times, we really are a top program. We just needed a coach that believes that.

I agree, girl. He's writing a book on the process and its being written in chronological order...this is the first time in many years we are seeing the steps being taken in the proper order, with purpose, with structure. There is no doubt about it, he is building a foundation to build a castle on.

It's impressive.

Did I read this right? Cincy had the 14th best scoring defense last year? George Winn (2star) lead the conference in rushing? 1st in scoring offense in the big east? Over 3,000 yards in passing between their 2 qb system? Only 3 losses last year were by 7 points or less (2 of which were top 25 teams)? And his recruiting ground was within a couple hours of Louisville, WVU, Ohio St, VT, UK (they suck, but SEC nonetheless)... Not to mention Michigan, Notre Dame, Mich St, and Indiana all recruit Ohio routinely. I'm amazed that Cincy has been able to win 10 games the last two years.

Nothing says give me a passing grade like free pancakes

Well, you know how it is with certain people. They absolutely must find something negative in everything.
You may have been only joking or not but the UT needs all the positive infusion it can get right now.

For me, I like the very overt actions CBJ is doing. I think like too many football programs, the UT isolated itself as a kingdom within a kingdom. Fulmer even had an elevated throne-like desk in his office. Players got special treatment regular students didn't, especially in terms of disciplinary actions. I like two things about the latest CBJ actions:

1. "Well, we're one team. We're one Tennessee. We're one family." To me it makes it actually mean something when I see the slogan of, "We're Tennessee."

2. Players had to HAND DELIVER the invitations and not email them. Bout time players who sit way in the back, slumped in chairs with some darn iPad plug stuck in their ears hoping to not be noticed are made to come front and center, look the professor in the eye and say something intelligent. Not that all players behave that way but I've seen too many who do. CBJ's requirement puts the players' and professors on a personal level. This can lead to really good academic results. Teachers giving extra time and effort to a student athlete who needs it, advising the same or even assigning tutoring etc. Thus helping to keep that player eligible. Yep, coach, we're one Tennessee and thanks for reminding us of that and taking action to make it mean something.
