Either Butch makes proper changes to the staff next month and they turn the ship around winning 10+ next fall or the next coach will come in with a very attractive roster on his hands. We have enough talent on this roster to win the East and get to the playoffs. The new AD won't have to settle for a coach we have to google. Best case scenario Butch makes the right changes and wins the East next fall, can't wait to watch and see what happens. GBO

Sorry, but Dormady/Jones/Gaurantano are not getting us to 10 wins in the SEC with almost 0 meaningful snaps of experience.

I was using Canada as an example, and almost everyone in the world would take him over Debord if you asked them. My point is, I don't think Butch is the long-term answer, and the fact that he hired Debord when he had an OC position to fill is one of many reasons I have that opinion. If you disagree, I'm cool with that.

Oh, and I'll be sure to remember that OC's only get credit for methodical, plodding, 85-yard TD drives. Quick-strikes are pure luck and have nothing to do with the OC's prowess. :hi:

I don't like Debord either. And I also agree that their are a lot of better options for OC out there. But with your second comment. Debord is top notch OC with the Hail Mary call against Georgia then!!

I think that fence around the state has a hole in it. As far as Akers, I never really felt he was coming here because of Chandler. If you're not in the top three in the SEC in recruiting, you're an average team, not elite.

After I finished reading OP's opine, I knew the monsters of tedium would surely follow...which they did. Listen, fellow Vol fans, we're four years into a program being set up by a man who's doing his best at climbing an extremely steep learning curve. Whether we over analyze or under analyze the Vols' combination of recent successes and failures, both systemic and individual, we're still not going to watch OP's proverbial rabbit being pulled out of a hat until another year of this drama has played out. This is the SEC, kids, and although I just can't give Butch an A+ on his report card yet, he's going to be given a full five years to get 'er done regardless of all these bullish attempts to extrapolate from the ether why or why not Butch Jones should be sent packing, so let's let next year finish off the accepted litmus test. Forgive me for mentioning it, but I'm much older than the majority of you. Nonetheless, I'm still learning new things each and every day, and one thing I've learned that's stuck is giving up too quickly causes far more disasters than does hanging in for long enough for the characters in play to perform as designed. This recruiting class is still in the top 10, and from this ex-footballer's perspective, there's almost enough depth-with-talent to start vying for championships. I'm giving Butch this next full year before deriving my own opinion as to how successful this brick-by-brick schtick is working. 'Til then, I'm going to enjoy watching this team develop, because there's just not enough evidence to release the jury. Not yet. GBO!

Respectfully, having formed opinions in year 4 of your 5 years is perfectly acceptable, especially when year 5 has already been assured. And we have in fact just completed the fourth, not the third.

If the offense has to do a lot of work to outscore opponents every game like this year, then yeah.

If the defense gets back to 2015 level or better, our starting QB will just have to get the ball to play makers and avoid costly mistakes.

If reports are true, I think we can win with either QD or JG if our line protects them. Barring injury, I don't expect QB to be a problem next year. Both have talent and both should have a good grasp if the offense. Add in a decent to good running game and we will be fine on offense if we can get people blocked.

That's a big if. This line next year will be a veteran line with plenty of depth but there doesn't appear to be much progression made with these guys under Mahoney.

If the line is no good, it doesn't matter why kind of QB we have, which was what I was replying to.
