That ND is about to take Brian Kelly, who we passed on last year.

I don't want to knock them too much though, they could still take Meyer off of our hands.

Kelly covered a lot of ground this year such as being undefeated, a BCS bid, and Tony Pike being such a great quarterback this year. One year could have made a pretty big impact.

I'm not so sure we passed on him. I'm pretty sure I read somewhere that he turned us down because his family didn't want to move to Tennessee. Sorry if I'm wrong on this tho ya'll.

I'm pretty sure we passed on him. The only guy who turned us down was, I think, Butch Davis.

According to Hamilton, Butch was a smoke screen. We offered only Lane... if you want to believe the big cheese! ;)

Kelly is a quality coach that has built quality programs all the way to grand valley state. I hope that he does not find the same success with the Irish. I really hate them and all of their special rules for the BCS.

I agree......I hate 'em too. 1. ND, 2. Florida, 3. PSU, 4. ALA........and so on!

Cinci has not had a recruiting class that finished the season in the Top 50 since Kelly arrived, which suggests to me that the Bearcat's success is based mostly on playing weak competition and players learning Kelly's system. I doubt that Hamilton was willing to give Kelly a 2-3 year grace period within which to recruit and coach up the types of players he needs for his spread offense.

True, Kelly was the only other interview that Hammy conducted. The internet boards mentioned Butch Davis and then that was the biggest push. MH wanted Lane from the begging and he got his man. I am sure glad he did.

I think its funny that Notre Dame would go after another Offensive-Minded Guy. They had no problems putting points on the board this year, but they could't stop anybody. Now they are talking about hiring a guy whose defense gave up 45 to UConn, 21 to West Virginia, 36 to Illinois, and 44 to Pitt. Good luck with that ND. I hope they go down in FLAMES!

Even more telling than what he did with his QB situation, is what he did with his defense. He lost all eleven starters from last year's team. Still, he finished 3rd in the BCS Standings, and is going to the Sugar Bowl.

But he played weak competition and his defense cannot stop anyone.

Florida will wreck them.

Don't be sold on Kelly to ND yet. ND is also interviewing Harbaugh who I think would be a much better coach.

I doubt harbaugh would want to go to the rival of his alma mater. If he waits it out one more year then Rodriguez could be fired and he could name his own price at Michigan.

Kelly is a good coach, and maybe an offensive guru, but overall great head coach is not what I'd call him.

Last year in the Orange Bowl, Cincy scored on their first drive and I thought we'd be in for a long night. Bud Foster made some quick adjustments and then Tony Pike threw 5 Int's with mixed up coverages.

Kelly to me has the same rap sheet as Charlie Weis, but not nearly as polished. I think everyone is high on Brian Kelly right now, but I'm not sure I would want him coaching my program.

I think Kelly is a good coach but somewhat overrated. I think he is good for a school he is at now, but not at a major program. He could really make a mark in the Big East and change Cincinnati if he stayed there. He was pretty bad is his interviews lately questioning him about the ND job. I think he will melt down when the spotlight is on him. In Cincy, the Bengals get the football attention whether positive or negative. In Cincinnati, the Bearcats are kinda an after thought now.

I am just not 100% convinced that Meyer is out the race yet. Until someone else is announced I have to think he may be in play. I just don't see Kelly being enough "name" for Notre Dame. For most BCS jobs he would be, but not Notre Dame.

Tennessee did not offer Kelly the job after apparently doing a thorough background check on him.

Kelly is a good fit for Cincinnati and the Big East.

I think he'd be a disaster at Notre Dame.

This is not true at all anymore. UC is getting a lot more of the spotlight this year in town than the Bengals are. It's not even close.

I thought with the Bengals being good they would have the spotlight. I know in the past UC has been dreadful at best and mostly a bball school. Kinda suprising with all the OSU blowhards there too.

I don't understand why ND doesn't go after Saban, he has already shown that he CAN BE bought, and he has ties in mid-west as well as the South. Good recruiter and of course on tract to get another NC.

I honestly don't think he would leave. He has proved otherwise, but I think he may be a Alabama lifer. I think he knew he screwed up leaving LSU for the NFL and won't repeat the same mistake. ND is harder to recruit to. I think Meyer is the biggest threat now to take it. These are some of the same reasons though I think that Meyer won't take it. This job will either make you or break you.

The last 2 years UC football has been the talk of the town.

Nobody talks about OSU anymore.

The Bengals are getting some attention this year because they are 9-3 but UC is getting far and away the media attention from lead stories continually on 5, 9 and 12, to front page of the Enquirer, to all the sportstalk shows.

The change-over has been amazing.

With Kelly, ND will be the same team.....great offense limited defense. Without a conference affiliation ND can continue to schedule weak teams and unfortunately with their strict academic requirements for entry they will continue to have above average recruits (not blue chip recruits). Thus, ND will be no different with Kelly.
