With Kelly, ND will be the same team.....great offense limited defense. Without a conference affiliation ND can continue to schedule weak teams and unfortunately with their strict academic requirements for entry they will continue to have above average recruits (not blue chip recruits). Thus, ND will be no different with Kelly.

I agree. It will be more of the same for ND. Good offense, no defense. I also dont think Kelly will recruit as well as Weis did.

The whole Cincinnati had to replace 10 starters on defense from last year is complete BS. They have at least 5-6 guys starting this year on defense who had started multiple games throughout their careers at UC prior to this year.

Kelly uses that 10 new starter excuse because he made a terrible off-season defensive change with his coordinators and it has showed with their defense not being able to stop anyone.

You're crazy if you actually believe that.

I hardly ever hear Ohio State discussed on the radio, in the papers, etc...

Sure they are mentioned but it is NOTHING like it used to be.

I could care less about the rest of Ohio, but in Cincinnati...nope...Ohio State gets very little mention now in comparison to UC and the Bengals.

I think that Hamilton really didn't want the spread. I think Kelly would do well at Notre Dame. Their fans would enjoy that type of O.

"When asked which coaches he interviewed for Fulmer's job, Hamilton refuses to give a single name other than Lane Kiffin. But through a variety of other sources, I have pieced together a list that I believe to be accurate. I believe Hamilton met in person with Troy Calhoun of Air Force, Turner Gill of Buffalo, Brian Kelly of Cincinnati, Gary Patterson of TCU, and conducted an interview over the phone with Mike Leach from Texas Tech. Hamilton was also scheduled to meet with Will Muschamp of Texas, but Muschamp signed a coach-in-waiting deal four days before his face-to-face interview with Hamilton. Per sources, Troy Calhoun of Air Force was the number two choice. "

That is basically what they have already.

Strong O and no D.

Same thing Kelly has had at Cincinnati. Good O and no D.

Just because we passed on him (if we did) doesn't mean he isn't a good coach, or that we got the better coach.

Many consider him to be among the best available that would take the job.

His credentials probably look a lot better than Lane's right now, but I will take Lane and the staff he assembled and be more than happy with what we have.

...and I think Lane will turn out to be a heck of a head coach. He just doesn't have that many games under his belt yet.

Kelly is a good coach, but he has skeletons in his closet and personally I dont think he's that great of a recruiter, at least when it comes to ND's expectations.

Why does the OP think they are about to hire Brian Kelly?

He's just doing an interview.

Jim Harbaugh is interviewing for it too.

Cinci has not had a recruiting class that finished the season in the Top 50 since Kelly arrived, which suggests to me that the Bearcat's success is based mostly on playing weak competition and players learning Kelly's system. I doubt that Hamilton was willing to give Kelly a 2-3 year grace period within which to recruit and coach up the types of players he needs for his spread offense.

This is a great point. Mike Hamilton had just observed what happens when you have mismatched players trying to learn an offense (Dave Clawson).

I hope ND doesn't decide on Kelly because I think he's a very good coach and I want them to stay as average as they are.

I'd take them getting Meyer, but only because that actually benefits us.

Way too much buzz around him. He's going unless a bigger name (Meyer) says yes.

Why would Ohio State be the talk of the town in Cincinnati? Any mention of the Bucks in Cincy is a bonus.
