...it's after midnight on national signing day, and I haven't seen any threads here all day long questioning the validity or importance of star rankings.

Congratulations VN! Congrats Coach Jones and staff! This is quite an achievement. I can't remember the last time we've gone a whole signing day without at least one massive thread about how star rankings don't matter. It was always a dream of mine to see this day.

Now, my new dream is to go a whole season without an excuse involving Nick Saban once losing to Louisiana Monroe. #daretodream

To me, it's right up there with the win over South Carolina. Honestly, I knew one day we would beat a ranked team again. But I was beginning to doubt we'd ever see another signing day without a host of "Johnny Manziel was a 3 star" type excuses.

#truefreshmen.........reality check. Sorry, you are going to have to continue to complain for a couple more years as these kids learn how to play football with the big boys.

Truth. There are obviously Manziel type 3 stars that blow up. But it's been tough having to rely on and hope some of them do just to try and stay afloat. A haul like this provides more confidence, and hopefully validation, of CBJ's evaluations of the players and also that some of those 3 stars might be that type player while not having to rely on it.

Win, lose, or draw, I expect that watching these young men learn will be more exciting than most of what we've seen the last few years.

I was thinking you were gonna be the only one to start a negative thread today....

Congrats Oregonvol! You're growing up.

Absolutely Spot ON!......and I think we will see more winning than losing but these kids have a great deal to learn. Remember these kids have been standouts in high school where few players have real ability. From this point forward everyone they face will be standouts. I will say I feel better about UT football right now than I have in a very long time.

I guess from Day 1 when CBJ was hired he said he was going to hire the best staff that will be relentless effort in everything they do, he was right. VolNation just didn't realize what a real staff looked like!

NSD was smooth sailing, I'm just thinking about the teams waiting for the kids to pick a school today only to be glad UT was not on any list, no drama was nice!!

And I never felt good coming in 2nd place on national TV for a hat pull selection.

Darth, I just want to take a moment to acknowledge your grammatical mastery. There are tons of Grammar Nazis around who are quick to point out flaws in punctuation and vocabulary, but nobody gives credit where credit is due. Thank you for your flawless use of commas, periods, capital letters, and sentence structure!

Only ore vol would go this route. If you think this smartass thread is a positive, he got you. He was throwing jabs again. Unneeded. Unwarranted. But up his alley.

There are some who make it their life's mission to criticize everybody's grammar. I don't have a fondness for them either. I think others are just frustrated with seeing so many born American college kids spelling "bird' as "burd", not knowing the difference between "your" and "you're", "wind" as a noun and "wind" as a verb and on and on. Then seeing foreign English as a Second Language (ESL) students use our language better than our own college kids. But again, those who jump on every typo, you got to ask why they're really on the board.

I'll try to bring some order back to this place....

Star rankings don't matter! It's not an exact science. If it was, how do you explain a player being a 3* on one service and a 4 or 5* on another?

Also, don't forget that Saban lost to SW Lousiana Tech State in his 1st year at Bama.

And as a bonus: Butch gets it. Bring on Bama & Oklahoma!

If one wishes to espouse a truly all-encompassing evaluation of the merits of the aforementioned post, one must admit there is, in fact, an error. Sadly, Darth has fallen victim to a habit common to so many among our ranks - the excessive usage of the demonstrative pronoun "that."

Please reread the post you quoted, ignoring the "that," and observe how the overall linguistic flow is much improved. Please refer to my opening sentence, where I correctly refused to deploy a "that" between "admit" and "there."

PS. Please don't miss the sarcasm here - this is only a joke.

Yeah man, you figured out my secret code. This is actually a massively negative thread congratulating the staff for a successful recruiting job.

I've got some aluminum foil here, if you want to make a hat out of it.

your post at 1:30 am was meant to do nothing more than take jabs at people that talk about star rankings and their lack of importance. You didn't congratulate the staff on a great class. You congratulated them on shutting up non star gazers.
Denying that was your point makes you look even more immature. Everyone that posts here knows you have negativity issues, even when disguised as compliments.

This thread kinda got off track but I think by the time the guys we signed yesterday graduate from UT we will be instilling so much fear into our opponents that they wet their pants thinking about having to play Tennessee! A program like ours doesn't stay down forever & we are on the way back! Thank you, bUTch & Co,!
