I thought TAMU had unlimited money?

So I have seen multiple YouTube videos, Twitter and Instagram posts saying that Jimbo Fisher should be fired. Even Finebaum hinted he needs to go. So with all the negativity floating around, why hasn’t TAMU just fired him? It’s year 6. Now I realize that his buyout plus assistants would probably be close to $100 million. But that’s chump change to TAMU right? I have been told time and time again that they have unlimited funds.

It’s time to put that to bed. They don’t have as much money as some think. If they did, Jimbo would have received his walking papers by now.

Then to get a new coaching staff, add in another $150 million.

A quarter of a billion dollars in total. To change football coaches for the next decade.

Honestly, the Aggies are gonna let the rest of this season happen and see how things go. Personally, I don't think they are a horrible team. Just a middle of road SEC team which sometimes means you are pretty durn good in the grand scheme of things.

I would expect Jimbo to get another year all things considered.

Shorthorns joining next year is the wild card though. Maybe A&M just thinks they can't wait another year? Would Jimbo entertain a negotiated buyout at this point? Who knows? Just glad that I'm about 99.9 percent sure who is going to be the head man on the sidelines at UT next fall.

The additions of Oklahoma and Texas in 2024 will accelerate Texas A&M's decision on Fisher.

I think Fisher is gone if A&M finishes 7-5 or 8-4 with a minor bowl bid.

They don't want to be Texas's little brother in the SEC,

I was thinking Petrino would move up...one of the talking heads suggested that some time ago.
This is what I have been thinking since they announced he was hired. A coach in waiting. gets to put in his offense, get used to the players, and vice versa. learns the ins and outs of the programs, has a chance to work with the assistants. potentially allows them to avoid the fire sale if a couple stick around. proven SEC commodity, knows how to recruit in the SEC west. They can get him DIRT cheap. at least until he proves himself and swears off motorcycles.

Having the cash on hand to buy something is different from actually being willing to do it.

...and while A&M does have a ton of money, buying out Jimbo + staff then hiring a new coach + staff isn't chump change. Even for them. They could afford it, but it isn't chump change.

yeah. there is a difference in having 250 million-ish, and being willing to spend 250 million. especially when there is no one out there worth that money unless they are able to drag someone out of retirement.

its not just a case of having 250 million, its a case of is there a coach out there that is a 250 million dollar IMPROVEMENT over Fischer.

Year 6 of a 10 year deal. Without one single season less than 4 losses. At A&M. At this point, maybe they ride the next 4 years, hope to get a couple decent seasons, then let him go rent free.

Seems like A&M is mostly like having to deal with Miss State twice in a season. Aggravating to beat, but not likely to lose if you play a decent game.

Fiscal responsibility comes into play even if a big time program has tons of money to make a change. The buyout given to Fisher by A&M was ridiculous to begin with.

A&M's biggest sin wasn't the buyout itself. It was giving him that kind of contract right out of the gate before he'd even coached in a game there yet. It is nuts to hire a coach, even if that coach had proven success somewhere else (like Jimbo had), without any kind of a "prove it" factor.

From a monetary perspective, a contract like the one UGA gave Kirby is even more fiscally irresponsible, but they gave him that deal after he'd already won 2 titles.

Hold on- it's true that Jimbo is in his sixth year at A&M, but his contracted was renegotiated in 2021. His extension takes him through 2031!

Dividing the salary that he earned through the end of 2022 by total wins, A&M has paid Jimbo more than $1 million for each win.
Finally, I can't find the latest revenue numbers for A&M, but I recall that their annual revenues are somewhere between $100 and $150 million. Getting rid of Jimbo and hiring a new coaching staff would cost them about one year's worth of revenue. I think A&M fans are stuck with Jimbo for a few more years.

The biggest sin was the contract extension.

Covid year was 9-1. 10-1 if you count the bowl.

I agree they're a pretty good middle of the road SEC team but wow at all that wasted 5 star talent. Not to mention the massive money paid Jimbo and staff was on expectations of SEC and National Championships.

Plus the NIL money metted out in astronomical numbers for the players themselves to under deliver.
