a somewhat educated fan base.

it's disappointing to see some of the reaction from some of you. from the slamming of some of the players that chose to go elsewhere (that many of you have been slurping over the past year), to the criticisim of a coach and staff that has been together 1 month.

for a bunch of you that consider yourselves educated fans, it would be nice if in your rants you consider that recruiting is based on relationships; relationships that our coach and staff had less than 3 months to build and/or repair or start from scratch. OUr competitin in many cases has had a year or more.

and we still will land a top 20 or so class.

to see labels like "bust" or "Failure" etc....is frustrating.

i dont' think anyone would argue that it could be better and that, yes, i would have liked it if Brown and Kellly and Stokes and Montgomery etc....had all chosen TN and we be the #1 class.

but it's year freakin' one.

for you fulmer apologists that have been watching the last few guys go by the way side and are now jumping on the "see i told you so" bandwaggon, get over yourselves. Fulmer brought in top classes as recent as 3 years ago, and all it got us 3 years later was 5-7 and himself fired.

this guy has a plan. it isn't going to all happen at once and it isn't all going to happen in year 1.

welcome the new class in with open arms, i think once it is all said and done, there will be some real gems found in this class. and as this staff has the chance to recruit and build those relationships over the next year in to the next class and the next....we'll get what we need.

in short........just relax. it's just not that bad.

Post of the day, Jake. It's moronic not only because of the relationship thing, but also because the class isn't bad, at all.

i've been wanting to say this all afternoon but didn't have the time to type it out with class and keeping up with the recruits we did get, in which i think was a successful NSD

sure it's ok to be disappointed, most of you follow these kids in HS a lot more detail than i ever will. some of you have become fans of these kids. it is disappointing when that kid says no and goes somewhere else.

that does not mean that it's ok to start slandering the kid and the coaches.

be an educated fan, understand the circumstances, wish them well and know that this recuriting thing for us will get better going forward.

I agree with you, but it doesn't change the fact that we are in dire straights on the o-line and d-line. We desperately needed some big uglies, but we didn't get them. Brown, Stokes and Kelly would have been icing on the cake, but we didn't NEED them. We NEEDED help on the line.

I swear some of the people who post on here have mood swings like a preggers chick. CTFO....(Which stand for chill the %$!@ out)

We cant expect instant success...I like what we have in this class

Askew
Myles Jr
Richardson
Teague
Gordon
Schofield
Green

also I believe Oliver and Edwards will be gems

So its all good, patience is a virtue my friends..just treat the new Vols with respect and wish the other luck...

Ditto Jake Ditto! I would love to see how many of our fellow posters post negative no matter what happens. We won the National Championship 34-30...... Poster that same night....... we should have ran up the score....... Get over it. Things are looking up. Gone are the day of mediocrity and no passion or pride in what you put on the field. You are only as good as what you contribute and it is great to see some people working their a-- off.

agreed, on the need part. but g8trh8treric has a thread that explains this pretty rationally. i'll link it.

We NEED schollies for next year. It will be Kiffin's first class and he needs the room to sell the program. We didn't have a whole lot to give out this time so we just focused on getting more athletic and getting faster, which we accomplished. All the whining that is going on is just plain asinine and stupid. I would have liked to seen the previous staff come in under the same situation and do what this one accomplished in so little time. Also, most of you don't realize that 4 of our coaches weren't actively recruiting players in college for any other program. Lane, Monte, Coach O, and James Cregg were all in the NFL. For them to do what they did without having the knowledge of two years of relationships is simply remarkable. I can't wait until next year when we have a Top 5 class and watching most of you eat crow that are complaining right now. They have also already offered at least 80 Juniors for next year while trying to recruit the last part of this year's class. Also, we took some players that we shouldn't of and lost some that we would have liked to see stay and this happens every year so get over it. I enjoyed watching this staff do what they did this year and I don't think they will disappoint anyone next year.

I agree with the post, but the problem I've seen for the past few days is that no one is changing sides.

Everyone positive going into today is still feeling pretty good, and everyone who was lippy going into today, is looking to unload their complaints.

It seems like we have a very stubborn board with few people who can be persuaded----no matter who is saying what, no one wants to budge an inch.

You're right... long live the 2-9 defense... long live the 8 WR set... pass the kool-aid.

How did Auburn do it jake? I thought this staff was automatic? I thought they were SO much better than Saban et al? How did Saban pull the #10 class and answer Bama's immediate needs in his FIRST YEAR WITH ONLY 1 MONTH AS HC? He accepted the job during the first week of January.

I guess he's just better at making relationships, huh?

I'm so frustrated by this recruiting effort...

I don't care about rankings. I really, really like several of the kids UT got. BUT THEY DIDN'T FILL THEIR NEEDS. THAT is what a great recruiting staff ALWAYS does.

Persuade me Jack. Convince me that the number 10 SEC recruiting class is an indication of a championship just around the corner. Convince me that everything is JUST fine with UT's O/D lines.

Convince me that when Phillips, Hollins, Herbert, Oku, Stokes, Shackleford, and many others take a long look at the new staff and then say "No thanks" that it isn't a statement concerning them.

Please. Convince me. I am very, very tired of feeling the way I do.

...and I would add this staff a few short weeks ago was focused on the NFL, not recruiting future Vols in 09. As I posted elsewhere...I am confident they are focused on 10 and coaching what they have for 09. GO VOLS

Good post as usual jake.

A class ranked 20 or so when the staff only had a couple months on the clock - not to mention a program coming off a 5-7 season - is pretty good. I think part of the problem that some of our fan base has is that our new coaches have set the bar pretty high for themselves based on past performance, so many were hoping for instant top 5 class based on that. The fact we were able to get some big names on campus fueled that fire. But the reality is, it was an uphill battle. And realistically, we did good. Not great, but certainly not poor.
