Persuade me Jack. Convince me that the number 10 SEC recruiting class is an indication of a championship just around the corner. Convince me that everything is JUST fine with UT's O/D lines.
Convince me that when Phillips, Hollins, Herbert, Oku, Stokes, Shackleford, and many others take a long look at the new staff and then say "No thanks" that it isn't a statement concerning them.
Please. Convince me. I am very, very tired of feeling the way I do.

i can't explain auburn any more than i can explain what saban did in year one.You're right... long live the 2-9 defense... long live the 8 WR set... pass the kool-aid.
How did Auburn do it jake? I thought this staff was automatic? I thought they were SO much better than Saban et al? How did Saban pull the #10 class and answer Bama's immediate needs in his FIRST YEAR WITH ONLY 1 MONTH AS HC? He accepted the job during the first week of January.
I guess he's just better at making relationships, huh?
I'm so frustrated by this recruiting effort...
I don't care about rankings. I really, really like several of the kids UT got. BUT THEY DIDN'T FILL THEIR NEEDS. THAT is what a great recruiting staff ALWAYS does.
thanks.....man, that was a long time ago.....lol:saban had a national champ. ring already and pretty good cred. as a college coach. he was the hot one at the time. chill.
jake, i have not seen u here in a while and as always , you are the voice of reason. you always put things the way i normally see them but don't know how to say them. even back in the govolsxtra days before i knew about the VN.
a) thank you for your honesty, i think most of the naysayers today did the same thing, but won't stand up and admit it.I agree mostly. I was excited to get the entire staff together. The first thing Vol fans said when hired was that we were going to get the best talent in here. I feel disappointed in the fact that we couldnt pull some of the top talent that we did recruit. Yes, I know the whole, "not enough time" thing and the "relationships" thing as well. Both are valid, but I bought into they hype too soon I guess.
Saban didnt do well his first year recruiting either and that gives me hope. Alabama also has more top highschool talent that wants to come to Alabama every year as well. I feel it will be harder than this staff thought to compete with other SEC schools for talent in the future.
:yes::birgits_giggle:Good post, jake.
Even though you say you thought the fanbase was educated, you knew before today there were people who weren't going to be happy no matter what happened. Whether it be not liking today's results because they're still attached to Fulmer or because they live and die by the number of stars beside a player's name, it's impossible to please everyone. I do think that the large majority of the fanbase is still on the Kiffin bandwagon.
The Fulmer apologists who have went out of their way to say the Vols had a legitimate chance to win the SEC title every year in recent memory are the funniest on this day. To hang on to the hope that Fulmer was going to produce something after seven, eight, and nine years of failing, but then declare the next coach a bust before he even makes it to his first Spring practice is beyond hilarious.
