Yeah, it's so hard to fill jobs with 2 million dollar salaries. If anyone was lucky that day, it was Dooley. He had duplicated the record of the guy who got fired before him at La Tech. He probably would have been fired in another year. But we come in and more than double his salary, give him a high profile job with top facilities, fan support, athletic budget, etc. and one of the biggest buyouts ever for when he inevitably fails? That's lucky. Even with Hamilton bungling things and trying to get by on the cheap, at the very least, Sumlin would have taken the job if offered. UT was anything but lucky that day.

not to mention the five million dollar payoff he was due after establishing his incompetence beyond any reasonable doubt.

Yea I think UT would've done just as well with Kippy and probably better with Chaney than Dooley.

Who exactly was knocking down the door to come to Tennessee at the time?? Nobody, nobody wanted this job two weeks before signing day. I said Dooley was over his head and had to go in another post! Kiffen had the NCAA all over the campus, your lucky we got somebody with a little sense to straighten things up. I also believe Dooley petetioned the NCAA to have any infractions committed at UT to have any sanctions follow Kiffen to USC. Drop your crack pipe, this is a great job, this job will be even better now, that things are in order. If you want to blame someone for ****ing Tennessee, blame that balless piece of **** Kiffen. Don't act like it's all on Dooley's shoulders. Again, we were lucky! Money is nothing compared to NCAA sanctions.

The hype is always huge then Mike Hamilton would hit a crack pipe, throw a dart at a wall of polaroids and hire that guy, it was sham. Ive seen every name there is mentioned for this job, after Fulmer someone on here swore up and down that Kyle Wittingham was coming and wanted to beat Bammer for the rest of his life. The dillusional run this board into the ground during coaching searches, its sad, never shouldve fired Fulmer for the 4 seasons of bulls*** we've endured.

Wow!! Somebody I can believe in. Great post. Very non-dillusional. We would have done no worse over the past 4 years.

This hype has definitely surpassed last time but basically its the same shiz as the last coaching seach....tons of insiders coming out of nowhere with multiple guaranteed posts that never (and I mean never) come true. Downright halucinations, and its the same thing this time with the same rumors, the same reasons, and the same excuses when things dont look good and how we need to just sit back and wait (soon with a wink). I simply cannot wait for "their" reason when this falls through, whether it be dollars, control, staff or our guys screwed it up (Hart), nothing will surprise me at this point. I feel sorry for anyone who has fallen for the trap this time...I am still recovering from the last one, lol.

Huh? No one was knocking down our door. That's not how a coaching search works. You realize that right? It's the AD's job to find and, when necessary, woo candidates to come here. If the job were just to hire the guy who is knocking down your door then we could hire anyone to do it and pay them minimum wage. When you've got a short window and a desperate situation, you have to overpay, that's how it works. But Hamilton went the cheap route. And in spite of that, he still could have hired Sumlin, but he hired Dooley instead. Dooley was obviously a stupid hire at the time and it looks even worse now that he has run our program into the ground (and he didn't do anything to lessen our Kiffin sanctions, not sure where you got that myth). No amount of damage Kiffin did could justify 4-18 in the SEC or getting out-recruited by Vanderbilt. That's a whole new low and we have Dooley to thank for it. He was well compensated for turning us into a laughingstock and will continue to be well compensated for years to come. I don't see how that makes us lucky.

Unfortunately, the last two times, when people declared that our stupid AD screwed up the hire, they were dead on right.

And yeah, it looks like this hire is going pretty much the same as then.

I think if Fulmer had kept his job the last 4 seasons we would at least be talking about 2 bowl games and more than the 8 SEC games we've won in the same time period.......
