I wish that CCM would loosen up

I wasn't saying that CCM lacks fire, just that he tightens up especially at the end of games, and so does his team.

Not you. Your thread got hijacked. I agree with your point.

And that's another reason a tourney berth was important. We could have gotten some valuable experience for next year, when we absolutely should be contending.

We did tighten up late a lot. I better not see that next year. This team will be too experienced.

I wish CCM would be more like Bruce and lie to the NCAA. I wish he would just let his players do whatever they want and not be disciplined. I wish CCM would have more players get kicked off the team because they couldn't pass a drug test. I wish CCM would recruit more bust like tanning bed. Guys get over Pearl, yes he had some good runs, but his style of offense and defense was laughable. People forgot about his controlled chaos, wait until 10 seconds left on the shot clock and then jack a 3 up. Lets not forget that Maymon and McRae were awful under Pearl and Martin developed them into All SEC players.

What a stupid idiotic post !

I wish CCM would go to NCAA tourneys, Sweet 16's, and Elite 8's, and bring in 4 & 5 star players like Pearl. I wish CCM would would get us to a No 1 ranking like Pearl. I wish CCM would win SEC championships like Pearl, and I wish CCM would get us back to being nationally relevant like Pearl !!!

Pearl was the best coach this program has ever had and is ever likely to have. Cuonzo absolutely sucks in comparison, and if he fails again next year we ought to go begging on our hands and knees for Pearl to come back.

Bruce pearl is a tough act to follow in the enthusiasm department. Remember when he got so worked up that he drenched every square inch of clothing in sweat...I didn't even know you could sweat in some of those places. He also wasn't afraid to take a technical, but at the end of the day that only hurts you.

Stokes and Hubbs.

That would be Ray Mears.

Technicals are overrated. There are other ways of lighting a fire under your team's ass that don't involve letting the other team shoot a free throw for no reason.

For the hundredth time, comparing the two men is completely stupid. People are too simplistic to do such a thing. I guess UCLA is still looking for the next John Wooden.

This. Is. Old.

Nope, Pearl is the greatest coach we've ever had, and it ain't even close. Ray Mears never even won a tournament game much less get us to an Elite 8, or a number 1 ranking.

As for Stokes and Hubbs, a 4/5 star player here and there ain't good enough and isn't as good as Pearl was recruiting.

Pearl was recruiting magnificently. That's why Zo inherited a roster with seven scholarship players and two signees that didn't even qualify.

Bruce ain't coming back. For him to come back, UT would have to eat the biggest crow ever and that will never happen

I, for one, would rather eat some serious crow and win big and go to NCAA tourneys, Sweet 16's, and beyond, rather than have sucky teams that go to the NIT.

And have the NCAA looking for any excuse to nuke your program because you hired a repeat offender. Don't forget that.

I'd just hate for stokes to not ever get to see a ncaa tourney

What would you have said if Martin didn't pull in either Stokes or Hubbs? Cuonzo can't get it done on the recruiting trail? It seems that he can't do anything right with some of you.

If he wants to do something right, then he should get us to NCAA tourneys, because anything less is unacceptable CRAP !!!

Yikes. Let's not get carried away. It is at least close. Heck, if it's not close, it's in favor of Mears.

Ray has him in overall win % by the way.

I wasn't around then, but everything I've read would suggest that Mears was more important to (and better for) UT basketball than Pearl.

Zjc, wherever you are, help me out here. I know you weren't around either, but you know about this stuff.

I mean that's 2 in 3 years. That's a little more than 'here and there.' It's plenty good enough. IMO you're overrating Pearl's recruiting classes. Pearl didn't actually have that many 4-5 stars if I remember correctly.

Kevin Ware is a sophomore averaging 16 minutes a game at Louisville this year. He was granted a release by UT. He did qualify. The other signee, Chris Jones, will be at Louisville next year. He would not have qualified.

Until Cuonzo recruits guards who can handle the ball and shoot, the results we have seen the last two years will continue. Lack of guard play has really hurt the last two seasons.

This...all day. Partly Pearl's fault and partly Martin's fault.

Yeah but I think Ware didn't start playing until mid-season last year. That is a fair point, though.

I'm just saying that roster-wise Pearl didn't leave Martin in a good position. CCM has not recruited PG well at all, too. That's probably my biggest grievance at this point.
