I wonder if Kiffin’s defensive flop fest cost him any looks…

That's funny.

So is Kansas I guess. And Candy. And Rutgers.

I'm pushing 50. In my lifetime, Ole Miss has a winning record exactly 13 years (counting this season). Of those thirteen, about 7 of them were 6-5 seasons. 1 game above .500. That means 6 seasons out of about 50 finishing more than one game above .500.

In the last 30 years, their winningest coach is Cut. He won about 2/3 of their games in his five seasons, and then they fired him lol. Guess he was not fulfilling the objectives of the program !

See where I'm going with this?

If you are a member of the SEC you are a major program.

I have never seen as much obvious flopping as the Ole Miss defense did against Tennessee. Flopping is amplified with Kiffin, not because he is "polarizing", but because of the regularity with which his team does it.

On a separate note, this forum sure does consider Lane Kiffin to be a more coveted head coach, than what is reflected by reality. VN had him as a front runner for both the Florida and LSU openings. However, there is no indication that he was ever considered by either school... and he won't be considered by Oklahoma or Miami either. He is clearly not as in demand, as this place thinks.

This we agree on. He's not the hot commodity some think he is, if he strings together a couple more 10 win seasons over the next 5 he will be.

Yes they are on the same level as Oklahoma, Florida, LSU, and who else is open that never called Lane Kiffin?
No. Just no. Ole Miss has nice facilities they’re a good program that’s had some recent success. But they have no where near the money of those programs if push comes to shove. If any of those programs wanted Kiffin he would be there.

Kiffin like him or hate him finds ways to win. His weakness much like ours was how much pressure the quick strike offense put on his defense. Well he found a way to neutralize or at least mitigate that weakness by having players flop. Whether you consider it cheap, cheating, whatever there’s no doubt it increases the probability of Ole Miss winning those games. I don’t like the guy, hate his tactics but they were effective.

Yes, both are major programs. Vandy has shown that with the right coach they can be competitive.
Major program means to me personally that they have a shot at the national title every once in a while. There’s zero way in hell Vandy ever plays for a national title. The right coach is always going to bolt to another program given the opportunity

We differ on what we consider major programs. With the current system there are only 5 or 6 major programs in all of D1 football by your standards.

You made the point that I was trying to make.

Not really. There’s more than that in our conference alone. Auburn, Florida, LSU, Bama, Georgia, Texas A&M, Tennessee, Texas, USC, Oregon, Ohio State, Oklahoma, Clemson, etc.

I mean it’s possible with the right coach Ole Miss could become a major program but they aren’t yet. At one time neither was Clemson though. Vandy though they’ll never be relevant at least not in our lifetime.
