I'll never act like I wasn't upset when the Butch Jones hiring was announced. I was one of many who wanted that big name hire (ok...I wanted Gruden), and my first reaction after hearing that CBJ was hired was one of disappointment.

Boy, was I wrong. And I couldn't possibly be happier that I was.

The improvement that this team has shown from week 1 through now is incredible. It all starts with the Head Coach, and Butch's positive attitude, enthusiasm, and hard work has rubbed off on the rest of the team, and the product is beginning to reflect the input.

With a roster that has no more overall talent than Kiffin's or any of Dooley's teams, Butch did what Kiffin and Dooley couldn't: Teach them how to play 4 quarters, how to persevere when things get tough and don't go your way, and most importantly, teach them how to WIN!

The second half started with the Vols up 17-7. After 3 quarters, they were down 21-17. Had this been last year's team, or any of the 3 (and maybe more) before that, they would have quit as soon as they got down. This team responded. The defense shut down SC's offense in the entire 4th Q (especially crunch time), the offensive linemen certainly must have receipts in their pockets, bc they owned SC's d-line late (cheesy, I know), Lane and Neal ran well and protected the ball, and Worley and North made plays when they were needed the most. CBJ and staff d@mn sure out-coached The (senile) Ole' Ball Coach as well. This was a COMPLETE TEAM win, and I haven't been this happy about the present and future state of TENNESSEE FOOTBALL in a very long time. That putrid monkey is off their backs, and I'm confident that they're going to continue to work hard and buy what Butch is selling.

I wouldn't trade Butch Jones for anyone. Not for Gruden. Not for Saban. Not for anyone. He genuinely seems to WANT to be here, and that's what we've been missing in a coach. Only someone who truly WANTS to be here can truly give their all to this program.

I really love the fact that he "buys in" to the team like he has been there for years - and he gets others to as well. Granted, that Vince Lombardi stuff only gets attention when you are winning - but that is how you START winning is by having a team that is not just playing to win a game but to defend a near holy and righteous cause.

butch jones has definitely been a pleasant surprise.

that said, if bama called me tomorrow and told me they'd trade saban for jones straight up, i'd still take that.

The team really is buying into Butch's "snap and clear" mentality. Too many times in the recent past, when an opponent hit a big touchdown, we went belly up and were unable to fight through the adversity. When South Carolina made that 76-yard pass and run for a touchdown, we responded by coming back and scoring touchdowns on the next two drives. Perseverance and commitment finally paid off with the big victory.

This is ridiculous. After getting their a** kicked all over the field all season long, couldn't beat a bad Georgia team that lost an entire offensive unit to injury, and then barely beating an over ranked University of cock suckers team that barely beat Kentucky, you would think that butch jones was the next Phillip Fulmer. I would take any sec coach over butch jones. What an embarrassment.

Hey look, I found an upset gamecocks fan!

Classy 2nd post on Volnation. You should probably steer clear from making a 3rd post with your ignorance.

He is not the next Fulmer, he will be better than Fulmer. It took Fulmer 6 years to finally beat Spurrier and Jones beat Spurrier his first time.
We don't need your piss poor attitude in this forum.

I was a Gruden guy, but I think they could have done a lot worse than Jones. I was glad they picked him over Petrino or Butch Davis.

One really cool thing was that Butch had confidence in our Offense with less then 4 mins left and punted. Dooley would have gone for it (and the ESPN announcers were arguing that Butch should do just that). We get a three and out and the rest is history.

I remember when Charlie Strong turned us down, Louisville fans called us out and said Louisville's a better program, blah blah blah, then they lose to UCF at home, ruining their season practically. Then Arkansas making fun of us because they got a coach faster than us...look how bad they are right now. Butch has definitely silenced the haters. But I was a believer in him from his opening press conference when he was hired. I had a Georgia fan on youtube say to me this past week, UT had their best game this year against Georgia, and it would be blowouts again from here on out. Also said UT isn't on the rise with Butch but Kentucky is with stoops...BAHAHAHAH. I wonder what he's thinking now. There's no one in the country I would rather have than Butch.GO VOLS!!!!

Strong is a good coach. A lot of vol fans are giving him heck for that 1 loss, but remember...that is the only loss on the season. I would've been fine with Strong, but I am really happy with Butch right now. I was one of those folks who needed to be won over, and he's done just that.

This. Foolish statement by OP.

In a vacuum, yes, I would take Saban. However, we don't live in a vacuum, we live in the real world. And in the real world, Saban coaches for Bama, has apparently grown to love it there, and he d@mn sure doesn't want to be at UT. Butch WANTS to be at UT. So yes, I would take a Butch Jones who wants to be here, over a Nick Saban who would only want to be here for the money. On top of that, Saban is a complete douche bag. I tend to not like douche bags.

We clearly have different definitions of foolish, but I do appreciate your articulate response to my post. I thrive on constructive criticism.
