ICE Creates Vigilante Program

lol @ the slipper slope argument.

Good. It's past time.

And I thought the left was all about citizens taking their own well-being into their own hands. Or does that just go as far as looting, pillaging, burning down the local businesses of those who have served them, beating innocent bystanders and shooting kids?

You don't seem too keen on the "What has possibly gone wrong with the radical left's movement" argument.

Past time? Gotta disagree with you on this one. The last thing we need is more Ahmaud Arberys because some idiots decide they want to take the law in their own hands. ICE doesn't need to encourage idiocy.

Sounds like this is actually creating a well-regulated militia.

Again, I disagree. I think this is inviting trouble we do not need. ICE needs to do their job, not hand it off to civilians. I think this is a bad idea.

When people start stopping and questioning everyone who does not look or sound like them, this thing will explode. It's not a good idea. How are private citizens supposed to know who is and is not "undocumented"? I get the urge to call EL out on his/her hypocrisy, but this is a horrible idea.

Serves you right for running with an EL copy/paste tweet on face value. Read the bold which is coming from a very vocal, very liberal-leaning critic of the classes. RIF

From Daily Mail UK:

Sara John, the executive director St. Louis Inter-Faith Committee for Latin America, slammed ICE's program and said its intention is to drive white citizens to incite violence against immigrants, during a phone interview with DailyMail.com on Wednesday.
...
'We know that even though this program is not giving some sort of authorization to individuals outside of the agency to conduct enforcement activity, it is certainly begging and encouraging citizens to carry that idea of taking matters into their own hands and to sort of paint it in this obscure patriotic light of 'this is what good Americans do,' is to target people of color or target people who quote look like an immigrant.'

ICE is training and deputizing. That's not taking the law into your own hands.

Can you link anything that says that's what they are training them to, and the orders they're sending them out with?

I didn't see that in the article.
What McDad said.
I forgot the "basically" deputizing.

Can you link to the parts about them just sending out idiots to stop and accost random people?

I saw that they are actually training them and then giving them whatever limited "powers" to go out and do so. Isn't that "basically" deputizing them?

Deputize:
make (someone) a deputy.
"some officers will be deputized as federal marshals"
  • temporarily act or speak as a deputy
Deputy:a person whose immediate superior is a senior figure within an organization and who is empowered to act as a substitute for this superior.

What would you call it?

I cannot find anything in the Daily Mail UK article.

I tried a different source (NewsWeek) and found nothing either.

This is the only quote related (imo):

Asked why Guadian's letter on the program and ICE's statement appeared to highlight vastly different parts of the curriculum, Alberico maintained that "ICE is not training anyone to do immigration enforcement."
