Is it just me or is it odd that the NFL and NCAA are in direct competition for viewers tonight with Thursday Night Football and a matchup between two ranked teams? When was the last time that happened?

Last year, i believe Baylor vs Oklahoma and Oregon vs Stanford were on the same Thursday night.

It's not really a fight CFB should pick (and I think the system/schools actually know it...ESPN just wants to try to see if they can).

And probably hasn't happened a lot. Most ranked teams aren't going to play on a Thursday and the NFL only started playing Thursday games in 2006.

Edit: Just saw there were two match ups of two ranked teams last year.

K state has a pretty stout defense right now. They were lucky to only give up three.

The nfl usually waits till cfb is about over before the Thursday games. I love the college games on Thursday. They have several big games in college on Thursday but some of em are sleepers. I don't think it's a fight the nfl wants to make. I'll watch a couple of good teams in college over just about any match up the nfl makes.

In the south, college football rules and i agree about watching college over NFL, but NFL is the most popular sport in the country and it's not close, at all.

You're not most major cities around the U.S. though; it's more of a numbers thing than a fan base passion thing.

Neither really has that strong of a grip on Thursday night, though.

And the NFL's been doing it weekly since 2012. They did originally wait until around November to start, but it was more a contract thing I think.
