If Bama happened to win by 1, but LSU dominated the game statistically, who's NC?

The way the BCS was created, the national champion will be whoever wins the game. NM

Why is it a dumb question? LSU would still have a better record than Bama, and won their conference.

Although I understand your meaning and do not necessarily think the question was dumb; I believe the point is: the BCS is written so the championship is awarded to the winner of the BCS title game and the coaches agreed to vote the same once the game was final.

Isn't there a final bcs standings after the bowl games? If so, there is a chance that if lsu losses like bama did to them in ot that could stay number 1. I know that's a huge IF. And how in the hell is Auburn still ranked in the top 25?

The rules are written that the winner of the game has to be #1.

LSU is the SEC champion so that is what should matter, as it is more of a trump card in this case for me. Bama would have to beat LSU pretty bad for them to be truly able to hold it over their heads. We are speaking about Bammers, so they won't see it in a humble way.

The way the SEC is right now compared to the state of all of the other conferences, the SEC Championship is by far more prestigious than the BCS championship IMHO. Bias..sure, but it's tough to argue differently at the moment.

SEC title is not more prestigious. That is silly. Whoever wins this game will not care about the prior meeting or the SEC title for that matter. My problem is with this game taking place at all.

I posted this as "fodder for thought". And judging from some of the responses, the authors don't have that capacity.:p As you astutely pointed out, the BCS is the "title game". However, herein lies the flaw, and will be the flaw even if a playoff system is established; there is no team in the country who can equal LSU in wins or losses at this point, with the exception of Houston, who had an easier schedule than a retiree in Boca Raton. So LSU has nothing to win, really, by playing in this game. And if Bama wins, they will still not have equaled LSU for the season. So would they be legitimate champions? A playoff system would help in this situation, but only if all conferences hold a championship. Yet another of the flaws in the system has been exposed.

Just in, Big Ten just decided to make Mich. St and Wisconsin co-champs!!!!! They both beat each other this season and it is not " fair" that Wisconsin gets the conference title when they are tied 1-1 !!!!!! The only fair thing is co- champ and let Mich St go to the Rose bowl.

A Bama win is still a split national champion. 1-1 against each other is still a tie. Remember this is not a playoff system, just a bowl game.
