I fear his recruiting would not suffice in the SEC, even moreso than what Dooley was pulling in the past three years. He has also taken over programs that were left over by Brian Kelly, which should be taken into account.
I myself would be extremely disappointed in this hire either way when there are still some better options out there. You can look at some pro coordinators that have linked interest into the job if all else fails.
I agree.. His recruiting will be in question; solution? Hire a capable staff. Bring in a solid DC, see if you can pick up a few good recruiters (i.e. Tee Martin, keep Jay Graham, etc.). We have some young guys on the defensive side of the ball.. I'm fairly confident that with the right DC, we can be a tremendous amount better on that side of the ball next season. McNeil, Gray, Toney, Randolph (supposing he'll be back), Johnson, etc.. They're not bad players and I think we see them in a much different light next season.
I'm still thinking (even if the 3 amigos take off for the Draft) that we're going to have a promising offense once again. Experienced running backs, a few impressive receivers, a solid line. The question will be whether or not Peterman or Worley can step up next year. I'm beyond excited to see whether or not Peterman will live up to those impressive recruiting highlights I've seen. I am worried about replacing Rivera, that guy was one of my favorites and was very dependable.
Anyways, what I'm getting at is: We have more tools at our disposal than you think.. So with the right staff, I'm fairly sure anyone with some heart and some drive can get us moving again, and hopefully nationally relevant within the next 2-3 years. I can be very patient because I know the struggle will be worth it to see us back at the top.
Sorry for the long post, and I know I was ranting a little bit. I'm just already getting the UT fever for next season, regardless of who our coach is. Oh, and I've been rewatching Friday Night Lights, so that also attributes to my positive attitude about next season.
Clear eyes, full hearts, can't lose!
