If Butch is hired would you negative people like him more if he brought in T. Martin and hired a proven DC? Yes this guy isnt a home run by any means, but hes won every where hes been. This guy knows how to win games that he should win at least. And hes beat Charlie Strong twice!!

I fear his recruiting would not suffice in the SEC, even moreso than what Dooley was pulling in the past three years. He has also taken over programs that were left over by Brian Kelly, which should be taken into account.

I myself would be extremely disappointed in this hire either way when there are still some better options out there. You can look at some pro coordinators that have linked interest into the job if all else fails.

Look man...as a fanbase we've been beaten, bruised and even raped (figuratively speaking, of course), if you will, by the last two AD hires (non alum's). We are just voicing our disgust and outrage. Call it negative or whatever, I've just had enough. Fulmer sent the program into the ditch, and we've had no hopes of seeing things change for the better since.

I'd rather have Butch the boxer. The guy who killed a man in the ring and didn't feel the least bit bad about it. He had Knoxville ties, if memory serves.

I agree.. His recruiting will be in question; solution? Hire a capable staff. Bring in a solid DC, see if you can pick up a few good recruiters (i.e. Tee Martin, keep Jay Graham, etc.). We have some young guys on the defensive side of the ball.. I'm fairly confident that with the right DC, we can be a tremendous amount better on that side of the ball next season. McNeil, Gray, Toney, Randolph (supposing he'll be back), Johnson, etc.. They're not bad players and I think we see them in a much different light next season.

I'm still thinking (even if the 3 amigos take off for the Draft) that we're going to have a promising offense once again. Experienced running backs, a few impressive receivers, a solid line. The question will be whether or not Peterman or Worley can step up next year. I'm beyond excited to see whether or not Peterman will live up to those impressive recruiting highlights I've seen. I am worried about replacing Rivera, that guy was one of my favorites and was very dependable.

Anyways, what I'm getting at is: We have more tools at our disposal than you think.. So with the right staff, I'm fairly sure anyone with some heart and some drive can get us moving again, and hopefully nationally relevant within the next 2-3 years. I can be very patient because I know the struggle will be worth it to see us back at the top.

Sorry for the long post, and I know I was ranting a little bit. I'm just already getting the UT fever for next season, regardless of who our coach is. Oh, and I've been rewatching Friday Night Lights, so that also attributes to my positive attitude about next season.

Clear eyes, full hearts, can't lose!

Look Tennessee has took a huge PR hit because of Dave Hart. You have to understand Tennessee is at a crossroad right now in football. Tennessee needs a name hire. Butch Jones maybe a good coach, Smart maybe a good coach. Who knows but Tennessee does not have the time to find out. This is SEC football! Look at the coaches in this league. And Hart wants to hire Butch Jones!?!? He would be laughed out of living rooms of recruits right now. Time to bite the bullet Hart go get Petrino!!!!!!!!

This...

Idk if he has a hot head, why no other mentioning of Bo Pelini. Such a BETTER hire than Jones.

Also, I really really really don't care if ppl think it'd be too embarassing, but bring back Phil! National Champion and a hall of famer. And who knows, he could possibly lure Chavis back! Phil would be a way better hire.

I don't trust any coach that comes out of the Big East. Edsell used to dominate at UCONN, look at Maryland now.

Look at WVU's season after moving to the BIG12....

Yes, he needs to bring in Tee, keep Graham and Pittman, ad a stud DC. If he brings his current staff, this will be a disaster. At least Dooley understood the dynamics of SEC recruiting.

It is obvious to me now that hart and cheek do not give a damn about improving the UT football program. We have become the laughing stock of SEC football. Under this regime and with this promised "Home Run" hire, we are destined to remain at the bottom of the conference. I see no hope of being better than anyone, except maybe KY. But I am sure they expect us yo act like the sheep they think we are and continue to buy tickets and send our donations in. If they do not care, why should we, even when our caring can make no difference.

Could not agree more. Welcome Coach Jones!

I love my vols any always will support them. But like with Dooley, if he starts to do more harm then good to the program good, I will be done with him. I really think if this doesn't work out Hart has just kilked TN football as we know it. It just feels like we will be doing this again in three years sadly.

I doubt that we will have a very good staff. Probably wind up with the cinc staff. Do not see anything that indicates great recruiting skills. Have not decided yet what to do about continuing throwing good money down the drain for crap like this.

Agree. The only way Jones has been a winner is with Brian Kelly recruits and following in Kelly's footsteps. Another disaster of a hire by one of our "Bama" AD. Phil Fulmer may not be right to come back as a Coach, but time to bring him back as OUR Ad. No one loves this school more and I am sure that would be reflected in our hires. Butch Davis LOL! Get rid of Hart!

Probably part of the deal for jones is keeping fat sal. And as much as I like Tee, it won't make chicken salad out of.......

That's a nice story. That means he's halfway finished canceling out his embarrassing loss to Dooley.

I'm guessing you haven't read the article about how inept Dooley was at recruiting.

1st off we'll have to rebuild to his style of offense(clawfense) current players will not fit this style. That's 1-2 more wasted yrs then we'll also have 2 yrs of spread players that do not work in pro style so when he's fired in yr 3-4 we have 2-3yrs to rebuild again.

If this hire doesn't work out for us we are in some serious sh!t.............

Which it won't, because short of getting an all-time elite QB (Tebow, Newton) to run it, that spread BS just doesn't work in the SEC.
