If Cal and UT win out.......

Bottom line: the SEC boast more "parity" than most (if not ALL) other conferences. Our SOS is weakened by our own beating up on each other.

We ALL know that UT absolutely dominated Cal. We could have won 56-7, if we so desired. If (long season still. . . .) we win out, Cal being ranked ahead of us, with one loss -- by one -- to UF, would be a t-r-a-v-e-s-t-y.

Go SEC, and, as of course --

GO VOLS.

I still do not know why it would be a travesty. If Cal loses to USC, then they will drop behind us and we will most likely play in a BCS game. If Cal wins out, then they will take the automatic bid for the Rose Bowl (taking nothing from UT.) If Cal and UT win out, then USC will drop below UT in the polls and in the BCS.

There are two lessons to live by judging by recent events. The first is beat the hell out of everybody you play, and do not take your foot off of the gas on offense. It cost us the Florida game, and if UT had beaten Cal 56-0 we wouldn't be having this conversation.

The second is simply win out. If UT beats everyone else on their schedule, I am certain they will play in a BCS bowl. The Vols are getting way too much press to be left out of the picture.

Cal will serve notice when they play USC. If Cal beats USC and UT and Cal each win out, Cal will be ranked higher - no doubt in my mind. I don't like it ... but our weak schedule for the last few games and their late game against a strong USC will hurt us. The only way we get ranked ahead of Cal is if we make it to the SECCG and win ... IMO.
I'm not sure if winning the SECCG would do it if the Bears beat USC. With each passing week we seem to be moving closer and closer to a L'ville/W.Va winner vs. the OhSt./Mich. winnner for the BCSNCG. Cal or ND may knock out USC but IMO all it will do is clear the way for an undefeated Big East champ. I do think one loss Cal and USC both get BCS invites. The BCS does have the extra game now due to the CG so that might help UT if they can win out.

WVU, L'vill, Pitt and Rutgers all play each other, and i have a feeling that neither L'ville or WVU will be undefeated at the end of the season.

the OSU/Mich winner (so long as neither lose before their game) is a lock in the NT game.

and if Cal keeps getting this much love, if they should beat USC, i could see where Cal could get the other spot in the NT game.

TX isn't out of it, but their sos will keep them out in all liklihood, and they should win the big 12...big game with Neb. this weekend, which is the only game left on their schedule that could even be considered loseable.

Aub, FL and TN may still have a shot at it, but both would need some help. If Auburn and FL re match and the both have one loss in the SEC CG...i could see where the winner could wind up in the NT game. Also, if TN somehow got in the SEC CG and beat a one loss Auburn team, likely in the top 3 or 4, and depending on what happens with some other teams, TN could wind up in the NT game as well...

but for any SEC team to get in now, a lot probably has to happen.... you need TX to lose before the Big 12 title game. it would be beneficial if Mich and/or OSU lose before they play each other, but not necessary. YOu need USC to lose for sure and Cal to probably lose before they play USC. And you need WVU/L'vill to lose before they play each other...

in the end, i have a feeling if Cal wins out, and wins the Pac 10, that win over USC would trump the loss to TN and they at 11-1 and conf. champs with a win over USC would be better than an 11-1 TN team that didn't win the SEC....i don't like it, but i think that's what would happen.

if at the end, everything plays out like it should....
FL/Auburn rematch in SEC CG
OSU/MICH winner remains undefeated
WVU/L'vill winner remains undefeated
TX wins the Big 12 with one loss
USC beats ND
CAl Beats USC--if USC is wins out, they will play for the NT, obviously.
then......
i see WVU/L'ville winner playing the Mich/OSU winner for the NT. Then as far as BCS berths go....TN, Cal, loser of Mich/OSU are all likely to get an at large bid.
5 games, 10 teams:
WVU/L'ville vs. Mich/OSU
TX big 12 champ
Clemson/GT ACC Champ
FL/Auburn SEC champ
Cal Pac 10 champ
ND at large
TN at large
Mich/OSU loser at large
USC at large
*Boise St could get in to the Fiesta bowl if they are undefeated in the end....and take a spot from any one of the at large teams.

And this is all as of today....with the 2nd half of the season to go, a lot can still happen. this will be a lot more fun, should we keep winning, in about 3 weeks....

I find it funny that all these posts say "if Cal beats USC then that will definately put them ahead of UT" even though USC is not very good this year. This is not the last three years, its this year. I know your point is tied into the media infatuation with USC, but I seriously do not think it will be that big of a deal. If USC is playing as poorly as they are right now for the rest of the season then a Cal victory over them will not be as monumental as everyone is making it out to be. Not to mention, if USC loses before playing Cal then the whole scenario will be null and void. A Cal win over a previously beaten USC will certainly not be a catapult in the polls.

Too bad we can't challenge Cal to an end of the year exhibition game.
We'd beat the brakes off them again.

It is irrelevant anyway. Right now, Cal is playing for the Pac-10 Conference championship and an automatic BCS bowl bid. UT is playing for an at large bid...MORE IMPORTANTLY, NEITHER ARE PLAYING FOR A NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP THIS YEAR!

exactly what i am saying. polls, computers, etc are irrelevant. just ut win their games is what matters most.
