If Chaney really loves UT and Kville how would this scenario work?

New HC comes in. Chaney gets the offer to keep his job at UT but is moved from OC to a QB coach or something like that. Would that ever happen? Didn't Chaney coach the QB's in 2010 and 2011? Or was that Hinshaw?

For the record I do understand there would be money issues going from a OC to QB coach.

I doubt he'd take that demotion.

He tends to get along with everyone but, he likes a certain offense don't think he will stay.

He ran one of the top offenses statistically this year. He will easily find another suitor instead of a demotion.

Not sure that a QB coach position is the right for for him. Bray hasn't improved much with checking down or keeping his head under pressure. Not trashing bray in this thread just don't see Chaney as a QB coach.

We are giving Chaney the Chavis treatment. This time next year we will be wishing he was here

This is something I worry about. Chaney will get another oc job if he is not retained at UT. I just hope it's not somewhere in the SEC and his teams come in and beat us ala Chavis and LSU

I think a few tweaks to his scheme and the vol fans would love him. More I. Less hurry up. But a mobile QB in his offense and i like it the way it is. Imagine Boyd running his offense.

I'm not wishing for Chavis to come back. I love what he did, but when he was here he had a hard time making adjustments.

Yeah he might end up at Florida or Vandy. Then all these so called Vol fans will see Chaney is a good OC. Alot of them made fun of Chavis now they want him back. :whistling:

We won't miss Chavis once we find a decent DC. But Chaney has done a very good job as OC. I've said this before, and as unlikely a scenario as it would be, I would not have a problem bringing in a defensive minded HC with his whole defensive staff and keeping the offensive side of the ball mostly in tact Chaney included.

If we had fielded even an average defense this year I don't think anyone would be complaining about Chaney. Although I will admit he chooses to run reverses and wildcat at some questionable times.

It's kinda hard to say that we are giving him the "Chavis treatment" and compare to what is happening now to what happened to Fulmer/Cutcliff/Chavis.

I do think that Chaney will land somewhere as an OC.

In regards to being a QB coach, he did great with Brees and has had marginal success with Bray. I don't see Chaney being just a QB coach anywhere except maybe the NFL? And I don't think he has ambitions for the NFL.

I appreciate Coach Chaney and his contributions to the university and wish him the best. I am sure that we will miss him but I don't think at this point we should assume that we will be worse off next year wishing that we had kept him.

Why would he take a step down? Chaney has proven himself despite the win-loss record.

I think that is an easy statement to make after 1 solid year; however, last year our offense was not that great.:hi:

Coach Chaney is a very good Offensive Coordinator. We should be so lucky as to keep him in Knoxville.

How many National assistant of the year awards has Chaney won? He wouldn't have a job waiting at a top 5 program like Chavis did. There is NO comparing the two of them. Chavis D never had a statistical year as bad as our O last year.

Chaney's offense was great......for one season.

His career did not begin in Knoxville... he's had a few more good seasons than one.

As much as I (and my obvious pre-existing bias) would love to see him be retained as the OC, I don't think it would happen. I'd imagine the new staff would want a completely new start from the ground up due to the bad taste left by Dooley.

In his defense, he has to run that crap cause we don't have a dynamic runningback. Near the end of the year, Marlin Lane has begun to emerge but at the beginning we were lacking.

CP reverses worked and AJ wildcat worked in the goal line mostly. But pig wildcat rarely worked and came at times when Bray had a good rhythm going in the passing game. Just didnt make sense sometimes. He should have just stuck CP in at RB like he did towards the end of the season.

But that's just nitpicking. I would like to have Chaney back.

Chaney was the Offensive Co ordinator for Kiffin and Monte was the Defensive Co oridnator for Kiffin.
Chaney coached the running backs, after Eddie Gran left the Florida State....
