If Chaney really loves UT and Kville how would this scenario work?

chaney has a qb that can not run the offense under center.i like bray as a qb but this is where his game is lacking.when cjc has a qb that can throw the ball from under center,it will add to his offense.

That and for Chaney's offense to truly shine you must be able to check down, flat out. In fact that is almost more important than arm strength as the entire scheme is designed around hitting 6-8 different targets over the course of the game. Yes, it is pass first, and yes, I realize that rubs people backwards in these parts, but that is when that scheme really clicks. Tyler Bray is more of a CP or Hunter or bust kind of guy, it was Orton's big struggle too (the guy who ultimately followed Drew). Before Drew we had a guy no one had ever heard of (or ever will), and Purdue had the same success because he could see the forest for the trees.

New HC comes in. Chaney gets the offer to keep his job at UT but is moved from OC to a QB coach or something like that. Would that ever happen? Didn't Chaney coach the QB's in 2010 and 2011? Or was that Hinshaw?

For the record I do understand there would be money issues going from a OC to QB coach.

Why do you idiots always want to fire/demote our best coach?

Chaney is head coach material.
If he is not retained, he will be the HC or OC of a major school next year.

Not sure that a QB coach position is the right for for him. Bray hasn't improved much with checking down or keeping his head under pressure. Not trashing bray in this thread just don't see Chaney as a QB coach.

Agree. Bray needs a really good QB coach. Chaney could stay as OC but bring in a coach for Bray and the other QBs and it's all good. I like to see a coach who really wants to be at UT and Chaney is one of them.

I think a few tweaks to his scheme and the vol fans would love him. More I. Less hurry up. But a mobile QB in his offense and i like it the way it is. Imagine Boyd running his offense.

Train wreck.

What you've said basically changes the entire offense.

And we just had bad luck with tight ends, losing 4 out of 5 of them for most of the season. With a couple TE's in game who are able to catch, maybe put one in motion, they don't know if it's run or pass, especially when it's 3rd and 5 or less. But we weren't able to run that.

CP reverses worked and AJ wildcat worked in the goal line mostly. But pig wildcat rarely worked and came at times when Bray had a good rhythm going in the passing game. Just didnt make sense sometimes. He should have just stuck CP in at RB like he did towards the end of the season.

But that's just nitpicking. I would like to have Chaney back.

Yeah, some of these things were just too predictable. AJ in game, whole world knew where the ball was going to go. Bartholomew in game -- that's one player the D could say won't be running the ball. Bray at QB, he won't be running it. We simplified the game too much for the opposing D.

Chaney handled himself well as an interim head coach. During practice week, the game and in his post game conference. He also won. He could get a HC offer at a smaller school like Clawson did. He is a nice guy, good coach and the players like him. I hope he gets retained by HC but if not hell be just fine.

This is something I worry about. Chaney will get another oc job if he is not retained at UT. I just hope it's not somewhere in the SEC and his teams come in and beat us ala Chavis and LSU[/QU Chavis wasn't all that. He just had the talent here as at LSU. Remember, his prevent defense prevented us from winning several games! With lack of talent we had here Chavis wouldn't have fared better.
