I have read on these boards that Chavis has already turned down a couple of other coaching jobs in the past.

The way the defense is playing this year, and the kind of success he has had recruiting, I think he is going to be offered another Head Coaching job. I think its only a matter of time before someone makes him an offer that he cant turn down.

When that happens I think this progam is going to really stumble. We may even see some 7-4 seasons in a row.

The defense has outplayed the offense for several years now. When you look back at some of the big upset wins the last few years, beating Miami at Miami and Georgia at Georgia to name a few. The defense played exceptional, and they were low scoring games. Your not going to be able to hide the problems on the offense, that they have done the last few years when Chavis leaves.

always a lot of defensive coordinators out there waiting on an offer, that would probably mean fulmer would take over till one was hired....maybe cutcliffe?

I don't think Cut's health will let him coach again from what I have read on several sports sites.

:dunno:

No doubt about it there.

Relax . . . Coordinators coming and going is a fact of life in college football. We had good DC's before Chavis and we'll find another good one after Chavis. I think the whole thing with coordinators is overblown anyway. USC lost their OC and hasn't missed a beat. GA lost their DC and hasn't missed a beat.

Chavis has been a good one, but let's not make it out like he invented the 4-3 defense or something

As far as our coordinadtors and Asst Coaches go it may be time to clean house. Get rid of our tendencies any blind man can predict, and that is on both sides of the ball.

Fortunately Chavis is a Tennessee guy and well paid. He might consider leaving, but I don't think he's necessarily itching to leave.

But I do agree that defense has become the VOLS strong suit over the past 7-8 years. With an average defense we'd barely be above .500 in the 00's.

Not sure I'd agree with that. Chavis is only about 4-5 years younger than CPF. I think I'd find somebody a little younger to groom.

Never can tell..I remember Guthridge taking over for Dean Smith for only two yrs before hanging it up.

Either way, I see somebody from outside the program coming in at the end of the Fulmer era. Chavis could possibly end up with an HC job somewhere, maybe a WAC school or something. I can't see anybody else in the current staff as an HC.

I'm fine with the defense we have now, but I think the offense could be a little less conservative. Not that I want any more exitement or ticket sales, just that we need to be a little more punctual with putting points on the board and establishing a lead which we currently suck at.

I agree that it is time to make some changes...although I think we need to try to keep Chavis and Taylor...but making some changes to the rest of the offensive coachs might be what we need to get us started in the right direction again....I mean come on...we really haven't had an offense in the past few years or atleast one that reflects the talent we have had on that side of the ball

Chavis isn't going anywhere...never has, never will.......Randy needs to be demoted, and Trooper to OC...

I believe Chavis is being groomed to take over for Fulmer when CPF retires.

I thought Peyton Manning was going to be HBC after Fulmer retires.

I know Id rather see Peyton named head coach. I think he could do the job right now.

Nah. PM has a few Super Bowls to win before he packs up and heads back to Knoxville.

Id like to see him eased into the position. Maybe as OC first. No question, his offense would be prepared if that were the case.

Peyton Manning coaching at Tennessee is one of the biggest pipe dreams I can think of.

I think the best candiadate to groom for the job in the organization would be Trooper Taylor.

I'd have to find another team if RS gets the job.

I'm not sold on Trooper as a full-blown coach or coordinator. He is a great asset in recruiting and on the side line, but he also had a big hand in our less-than-special teams last week. If he can pull the special teams off the short bus and convince CPF and RS to run the ball, then he might get some love from me.

RS will never be a head coach @ UT. Never. They would get my diploma back in the mail if that happened.
