what coach would be willing to take the job? UK definitely has to be the toughest place to coach.

I think the way the whole Tubby thing turned out, and the 2 seasons Gillispie has had would make it a tough sale.

Is UK down and out for a while or do they come right back on the national scene?

Kentucky is one the most elite basketball programs in this country. The only reason a top notch coach would turn them down is because they thought they couldn't handle it.

By my count, no less than 4 top notch coaches turned it down the last time it was open.

I'll ask a similar question to the one I asked about Calipari in another thread--what makes the Kentucky job any better than Florida, or Texas, or Michigan St?

Tradition and fans. Those other schools are football schools.

You need somebody with charisma and a thick skin. Kind of like Billy Gillispie, except he doesn't have charisma. Or good character.

But he CAN recruit. His ability to coach elite basketball is still being weighed.

Even though he wont be leaving anytime soon,

I think that Tom Izzo would be a great fit at UK. He has the charisma, an impressive resume, a championship, good recruiting base, is good with the media, and he wears rowdy Hawaiian shirts.

I still can't believe Donovan turned it down. He could've been plugged into the old UK tradition with his nouveau riche back-to-backs (The UK media guide would be able to lay claim to NINE national championships).

I like Izzo, but he'd be like Tubby II with grind-it-out basketball. IIRC, he turned UK down in the last coach search.

Kentucky will not be good again until their fans get realistic expectation. They will be great again, but no coach wants to go there now. People keep saying Cal would go there which makes me laugh.

I'm not sure that Calipari would be a good fit for the Cats. Too many rumors of impropriety.

If UK gets rid of BCG, they better go all out for the next coach. Like, back up several dump trucks full of cash into Bill Self's yard and let him swim through it like Scrooge McDuck, all out.

I find it funny and ironic whenever I read a Cat fan suggested Ford. BCG turned Oklahoma St. down before they hired Ford. If UK made that change, OSU would be free to get the guy they wanted after Self.
