If he signs stokes

I am absolutely "stoked" about the hire. Since following UT in 2001, I've never been so excited about a coach being hired, and I was wanting Kiffin from day one.

He is my favorite as well, since I've been following in the early 90's

You mean you resemble that.:)

Honestly, you can't really think that recruits are going to "love" that he played in the NBA?

That 9 points I mentioned is really what he scored in the NBA, I didn't just make that up.

He got a cup of coffee.

I really don't think it will hurt. He had bad knees and found out he had lymphoma at some point in his playing career. I don't know if that had any bearing on his NBA career or if that all transpired when he was playing overseas.

Haven't seen anything mentioned about it hampering his career. I do think that his professional career will help some. But it isn't like he was a 10-year vet or anything.

Honestly, alot of college coaches didn't play in the NBA, so it isn't a big deal.

recruiting is based off of relationships, hopefully he can build some bridges for UT.

keady stated that his assts said they thought he'd never play there because his knees were so bad... but he just worked thru it... like going 0 for six from three as a soph and coming back to nail 88 as a junior... must be a pretty hard worker

Guess we should just hire Karl Malone because of his points

You're joining the conversation late and it shows.

Not my point, he stated that "kids will love that he played in the NBA". All I'm saying is that is absurd cause he played in 7 career games.

His playing career will have little to no bearing on his tenure at UT.

Just saying that it probably isn't going to be a selling point to recruits.

You must be joking. Must be.

You must be one of those people I was talking about.

His professional playing career is nothing to write home about.

His college career, 8 years under Keady, beating cancer are selling points, him hitting 3 three point shots in the NBA, aren't.

I would actually start at him coming from east StL if I'm selling the story

Stokes and Clear sat behind the Tiger bench to see their old Central High buddy Tim Peete play for Tulsa. One of them (not sure which) wore a TN hat.

FWIW, Stokes is playing for the Nike sponsored Memphis YMCA team coached by Easterwood this summer. Sounds like they have taken all the top players from Memphis and loaded up one team and I mean LOADED.

And we all know how squeaky clean Easterwood is.

What does that have to do with anything?

Anyone acting like his "NBA experience" is going to lure top recruits is a complete moron.
We should have went after Alan Houston. UT grad, big time NBA resume, classy, smart, coaching legacy (sort of)...........not serious.

I agree with you that Coach Martin's NBA career will not be a big lure to a recruit. But I do bet that once he gets a kid here that CM will have some great stories to pass on to the kids, for whatever that's worth.

He's young, full of energy and doesn't take any nonsense. Parents are going to love him and players are going to love that he played in the NBA.

They may like the NBA story, but playing time in 7 games can only be so much of a selling point. It's better than what a lot of guys can tout, but I think we should keep the "played in the NBA" angle in perspective.

His first recruiting effort is to re-recruit current players and the two that have already signed for next year. We'll get a quick idea of his recruiting ability based on those results.
