In 2017, an unranked Iowa team defeated a highly talented Urban Meyer coached #5 Ohio State team 55-24, handing Urban Meyer his worse loss in his career.

Now, obviously this doesnt solve anything for us this year but I wanted to point that game out as a way to discourage anybody from thinking the loss to South Carolina is an automatic red flag against Huepel. Bad losses happen to good coaches. We will see how Huepel responds. Despite what happened Saturday Im still very excited for the future of the program.

I have very real concerns about this Vandy game on Saturday given the fact that Hooker is out. I have absolutely no confidence in this defense, so the offense likely will feel the pressure to score a considerable amount of points. I hope Milton is up to the task , but I am far from sure of it.

Agreed. I think we lose. Vandy is playing its' best football of the season and now have a bowl game in sight. Terrible time to have internal conflict, doubt, and a new QB. I know Joe can throw hard and has thrown some highlight dimes in mop up time this season. That's a far different situation than having to go win an SEC road game. Before you talk about how terrible Vandy is, remember what some people thought of SC.

I don't think it is a red flag on Heupel. The O has performed. You should be able to win with 38 points.

However this isn't the first time our DC has been badly outcoached. That has to be looked at.

It’s not a red flag in that we can move past it and be successful. I’d say it shouldn’t have happened, but good teams coached by good coaches do lose games they shouldn’t occasionally. Sometimes the loss is really embarrassing, as in the example with Meyer and what happened on Saturday. Still should not have lost, and certainly not so badly, but it is in the past. Bad things happen, but when you don’t learn from them and let more happen, that’s when it becomes concerning.

Right now we have played well in many games, and won several that a reasonable analysis would probably say we were unlikely to win. We have also played poorly in some games where we should’ve played better but eventually found ways to win. We have lost some and been more competitive than expected, and we have lost a couple badly but not necessarily surprisingly.

The South Carolina game we totally blew and it should not have happened, but it is only a single point in a body of work that has been extremely promising. If we put it past us and keep doing well and winning games we will be fine. If we allow it to lead to more bad things we should be concerned.

If we lose it is because the team (coaches included) allowed a bad loss to carry over to the Vandy game. Yes, Vandy is playing better but UT has a better roster even without Hendon at QB. The majority of the crowd will be UT fans.

Anybody acts up this week, Heup should make them play dodgeball against Milton using a football. They’ll get the message real quickly 😂

We shouldn’t lose regardless. Note I’m saying shouldn’t, not that we won’t. That as true for SC too. We will definitely learn a bit about how the state of the team on Saturday.

Agree, and Milton may force a few throws to Tilman or Hyatt. I don’t know the extent but hopefully Bru is able to play Friday. The D better show up and get some stops!

The defense has to get fixed. I won't call for a coach's head, but the defense has only looked really good once this year. I take issue that SC was able to duplicate Georiga's defensive strategy and it works only slightly less while Tennessee's defense cannot defend 5 yards, 10 yards, 15 yards, or more through the air. Especially the right side in all areas and mid over the middle. It's always open or too much YAC.
Vanderbilt is a steam roll for Tennessee. A tough bowl game, and hopefully some secondary help during and after signing day.

Wait, I read in the media that our loss was the worse loss by a top 5 team to an unranked team in college football history. Or maybe they said most points scored. Clearly not the worst loss with this newly posted evidence. So we have that going for us now.

I want to say it was most scored by an unranked team against a top 5 but could be wrong. I mean any way you spin it the loss was pretty awful.

I agree, our run defense and DL have been helping offset most of our secondary issues this year. When we get pressure we cover better. But last game we just failed on run D and getting to the QB. I remember another game to in Spurrier early years they played Nebraska for championship and the fun and fun got plastered. Tommy Frazier and that offense rolled Florida for 60 something points and almost 700 yards they beat them badly. After that game Florida started recruiting much more talent on D and got much better in the trenches. Spurrier realized his teams had to get much tougher overall and they did. Heupel has a lot to build on he just has to fix the weak parts. Our DL can play much better than they did last week and when they play good it helps the backend tremendously. We gave up way to many ground yards, we are better than that. We can do a better job at getting after the quarterback, we have shown this year we are better than that. Actually what are defense has done this year with limited depth on the backend is pretty impressive. Whatever happened needs to be put to bed, refocus needs to occur and effort on D is a must. I am sure the coaches are addressing the urgency in which we must play this week. We need to show people what we are all about this week. Time to make amends. Win this game and get in a good months work to improve in much needed areas. GBO!

I think you will see a better defense this Saturday. Remember Vandy doesn’t have a Rattler. Not even close. They don’t have the play makers on both sides of the ball that SC does.

You would have sworn SC had no playmakers before Saturday. Ratturd had 8 TD's all year before Saturday. Had 6 in one game against us. You can't take anyone for granted if you're going to lay back there and see if they can complete the pass or not. It's as if we thought he couldn't make the throws.

Vs LSU the defense looked like world beaters. UK too. What was the difference then compared to the chit show on Sat??

On Sat the D looked uninterested period. There’s a reason for that and I wish we all knew.

With a running qb it could be more of what happened Saturday.

You should have concerns. None of these games are cakewalks. We have no clue until we see it on television or from the stands. The offense should feel pressure to score. It's literally their job.

They have always had playmakers. They just haven’t played good this year. Our defense isn’t nearly as bad as it looked against SC.

I just hope the coaches & players know, then DO something about it.

Urban Meyer was out of a job at the end of the next year and essentially "on suspension" the first 3 games of his last year at Ohio State.

Urban was losing control of his team and coaches by 2017. Your point?
