Why do we care? If Tennessee didn’t make it I don’t want any other SEC team in it
SEC water Carriers all over this site, that's why. Kinda humorous Tennessee fans pandering for other SEC conference teams to win National Championship.

I blame all this on ESPN who started the My Conference is Better than Your Conference BS..

You must be a newbie to CFB. The Conference stuff goes back further than ESPN stuff. A lot of it is from 1980s and 1990s when SEC teams could not get voted Champions despite putting out great records. Back then, the two best teams didn't play each other in bowl games, it was a mess.

You had 1983 Auburn, 1989 Tennessee, 2004 Auburn, etc. SEC used to get no respect. Tennessee has 0 Heismans and until Saban, Alabama had 0 Heismans despite their rich history (even prior to 2000) and NFL prospects produced.

ESPN, when it started, sucked on the B1G like they have done the SEC the last 10 decades. The running gag is that if Michigan or Notre Dame started 3-0, they would instantly be in the top 5 back then. Oklahoma, Ohio State, Miami, and Southern California were other media darlings.

A lot of that is lost on new fans but it was under that environment when the SEC chant start. 1985 Tennessee was a huge underdog against media darling Miami in 1985 and blew them out 35-7. Similar situation with 1992 Alabama against media darling Miami.

The turning point with the media was the 2006 Florida vs Ohio State National Championship which really started the SEC hype.

Assume what you want about me being a newbie . Followed and watch all Sports since the 70's . Once again I don't give a rats ass about the rest of the SEC. Only team I pull for is Tennessee as what I was taught by my family.

I'm not a petty person, don't give two ***** what ESPN says or does.

I know how the Bowl Systems were run years ago, screw Auburn who cares...

Possibly the biggest UT road victory ever at the time.
Gotta remember that UT has twice as many National Championship's than Florida.

So, we won a few big road games over the years.

But, as a18.5 point road underdog, that game does stand out.

We also had a Miracle at Notre Dame game than was quite satisfying.

Notre Dame has been sneaky good all year. People wrote them off after they laid that egg against Northern Illinois.

SEC is in trouble. The conference as a whole, including Tennessee, look shaky and down this year.
Most teams in SEC are not up to the measure on the OL. Michigan last year, Penn St, ND & even OSU with their injuries even, appear to be better. Texas is very good also. That’s why they’re still playing.

Ga, Ala, & others were average, at best. Vols were below average IMO

No.

This is the weakest the league has been at the top since 2000.

2005 Georgia, 2001 LSU, and 2000 Florida are potentially the only weakest SEC Champions since and I'm not sure about 2000 Florida. I also think 2001 Florida and 2001 Tennessee whip the snot out of 2024 Georgia.
2001 was the best vols team i can remember. If we hadn't chit the bed against I think we would have won against Miami. Jmho

Penn St has played SMU and Boise

That alone makes this entire event a farce. Don't tell me that the jagoffs on the "committee" didn't see that and know damn well it wasn't right, but in their lust to get Big 10 teams into the semis they didn't give a rat's ass.

As far as no SEC team in the finals, that was over when Georgia lost. Texas was, is, and always will be a SWC/Big 12 team.

The four best teams in the nation will be playing in the semifinals. That's what it is

That's a bunch of bullschiit. Penn State was given a free ride to the semis - if they had played anyone in round 2, they would lose like they do in every game against a good team.

Who do you define as a good team? They lost to OSU by one score.....that suggests they'd be competitive with literally anyone

I don't base it on one individual score against another, because circumstances change as a season goes on. But if you're talking about the PSU-OSU game this year, the score didn't come close to indicating how thoroughly OSU beat them.

Penn State under Franklin has been a bully program, beating up on bad teams and losing to virtually every good team they've played, which is what they did this season. They got a ridiculous draw in this silly playoff, getting the two worst teams in the bracket. I don't even believe Notre Dame is great, but I'd be surprised if they don't win this game convincingly.

Penn State is good enough to beat the teams they should beat, so if that makes them a good team, so be it.
