funny comment given this thread is about the plausible possibility that we'll be embroiled in a nuclear conflict with Russia

If Trump were still POTUS the immediate risk of nuclear war would probably be lower because Trump would not have stood up to Putin or rallied international support to do so. Ukraine would have lost the war long ago.

Longer term, however, the risk of nuclear war will be substantially less with Biden having faced him down because a) it will be Putin's undoing; and b) to the extent he or anyone in his image survives this they will know they cannot undertake these adventures.

Its a balance.

If I'm not mistaken wasn't it Trump who reversed the Obama policy of not sending lethal weapons to Ukraine and started supplying them with lethal weapons?

Or perhaps our energy policy under Trump would have given Europe more leverage over Russia and the invasion would not have occurred.

Hard to say things are going great now under Biden when we've gone from no invasion to the threat of nuclear war.

The US and the World could not sit by and allow a nuclear strike on another nation without it being absolutely necessary and unavoidable. The situation in Ukraine is neither of those and would require a response from Europe at the very least. I am not endorsing a US led war in Ukraine, far from it, but it would require a military response from Germany, Poland, and other Baltic states that have capable militaries. Russia would have to be cut off from the rest of the World economically including China and if they refused then we do what has needed to be done for decades and that is bring manufacturing back to the US.

Trump's sense either of obligation to Putin, or oddly eerie respect for Putin, would not have done well here, you have to admit. (Unless you are Rasputin Vol or a couple of others in his camp).

You can speculate all you want but the facts are indisputable. During Obama's term Putin invaded and annexed Crimea, during Trump's term Putin did nothing but bluster and the with Biden in office Putin again invaded Ukraine and annexed parts.

and as you noted above - he armed Ukraine (reversing prior policy). In addition he took steps to make Europe less dependent on Russia energy and pushed NATO members to step up their support for NATO.

in policy actions Trump was tougher on Putin than the prior or current administration.

the reality is we have gotten into this escalation wholly under the Biden administration and we are supposed to believe they are the ones handling it in the best way.

President Biden has spent years in training learning to become a foreign policy expert just like Hillary. They get praised by our allies with useless platitudes but we get screwed by their actions.

The Russian collusion was real while Trump was POTUS is the only logical explanation.
