If Saban can start Tua for the first time in a championship game….

They have no clue until he is put into a sec game and is punched in that mouth. No one is known until the going gets tough.

They are looking at Nico as a 2.5 year player here. They aren’t gonna botch that plan just because we lose a game due to our defense going full retard.

I think there is ample reason to turn Nico loose that has zero to do with Milton. I also think Heupel isn’t the best communicator as to why he would make the change to the future aka Nico without causing issues. Simply put, do you think Heupel is prepared to take criticisms when Nico has games we lose simply because of inexperience? I don’t. I do see him being the rip the bandaid off type coach
Ya, I really don’t know what I think about him.
I was confident about no change before Florida. His presser has me wondering what he’s going to do though

Then we can start Nico next week. The SEC is down this year and still winnable (even with our team). Saban is already trying different qb’s and at this rate they will figure out their qb situation before we do. START NICO NOW!
Any kid saban trots out there will have much better talent than what we have right now....especially with what he put out there with Tua.

Saban never did this. Tua appeared in several games throughout his freshman season and replaced Jalen Hurts in the SECOND HALF of the championship game. His first start came as a sophomore.

Saban put Tua in surrounded by a good football team in all phases of the game. Nico doesn’t have that. He gets a bad oline and awful D.

Milton played about as I expected him to.

Had the OL and defense played like I thought they would, this game is an easy win. Clearly the defense is a fraud and the OL is just that bad without Mays.

Hooker could hide a lot of the issues if he was playing. The problem is you're probably only getting 2021 Hooker out of any QB. He was that special. So this team with very good QB play is probably still only as good as 2021.
Missing a veteran signal caller on defense affected a lot. They ran the jet sweep 3 times in a row, and no one followed the motion man at all in the 1st half.

Nico is not going to be an automatic fix all. He will however scramble and make first downs - he will be able to pass on the run. Joe is basically a pocket passer - not very mobile, not able to scramble and pick up yardage. Would Nico improve the flow of the offense? Would Nico find and deliver to receivers a little quicker than Joe? A lot of unknowns - he should at a minimum get some playing time in our next game which may be a challenge for us to win.

It's precisely because we don't have all the weapons that we had last year that adding a mobile qb to the mix might help open up our offense a little. Is it just me? Or should Joe be talking to the OC and QB coach and/or talking to the team when we are on defense.

Joe doesn't seem to be analyzing or processing on the sidelines - waiting till half to change up the defense wasn't good - we have quite a few problems - but some were obvious last week when we played against AP.

As a receiver - how are you going to get open with someone holding your jersey - as a pass rusher - how you going to get to the qb with someone holding your jersey? How can every call go against you - obvious holds and PI not called. Do the refs have a betting collective where they load up on say Florida and then make every call supportive of their pregame bets ? It was a very strangely called game.

Heupel is in a terrible pickle - should be interesting to see what happens. I remember two years ago - Joe was the guy - no qb controversy, Hooker shouldn't be considered as an option, the coaches know what they are doing.

Ain’t gonna matter, if the O Line can’t stop jumping early and give more time for QB to find receivers then it you can line whoever you want back there (Manning, Dobbs, Hooker, Shuler, take your pick!) results wouldn’t be much different

if he can't execute certain schemes on the practice field, then he is not going to execute them versus Fla, Bama or UGA.. or AP / UTSA.. when he is ready they will play him..

and if they have NO CLUE, we have the wrong staff..

Everyone loves the backup QB after a loss.

I still think Milton is the guy for now.

What I will say is I'm pretty much over the hype about him though. He is what he is. Yes he's an incredible athlete and yeah he can throw it over the mountain and all but he's not a consistent QB. And that's how he was in 2021 and he's still there and imo that's what we got. I don't really care about the hype around him anymore about potential and how he has a cannon for an arm.

Post like this really show how ignorant a large portion of our fanbase is when it come to football.
Our quarterback goes 20-34 287 yards 2 touchdowns 1 int. Meanwhile our offensive line play’s terrible, and is plagued with penalties the whole game. The defense literally gets ran over for an entire half. Florida has three times as many offensive plays in the 1st half because the defense cannot get off the field on 3rd down. Kamal Hadden literally chest bumps their running back then watches him run 50 yards into the endzone. Ollie Lane plays maybe the worst game an offensive lineman has ever played at the university of Tennessee. Yet somehow it’s all the quarterbacks fault. Smdh…..

Yep I concur, why Saban is playing three different QBs and not worrying about hurting feelings , we will probably continue to play Joe (lifetime Qb potential) Milton. Great coaches hurt feelings , average coaches do not.

Nico might be the better QB at some point but playing him is not going to magically fix this team.
Oline sucks. When Joe threw the pic if they had blocked that mack truck that play would have been a TD.
Defense sucked....
Nico ain't the magic bullet
Thinking everything changes with this team if Nico plays is naive & stupid

This times a hundred ^

I’m sick of hearing the tired old argument of Hooker only playing because Joe got hurt.

EVERYBODY that knew said Joe flat outshined all the others in practice.
People on here act like Huepel just wanted to play Joe regardless of who was better and assume Hooker was.

Truth is you never know until their tested.
Some fold under the pressure and some need that pressure and adrenaline to perform their best.

The difference is all three of his have at least 2 years of practice at this level and all three have been trash.

We have a 6 year senior that’s been fair to ok, and a true freshman.

If Milton has been as bad as all 3 of his I’d say no brainer, try something else but he hasn’t been any worse than the Oline or receivers

Yep because his QB last week threw 2 picks and Buchner sucked what I watched and they had to put their 3rd string QB Simpson in, I just watched him for 2 series not very fast got sacked and ran down by a 300 pound lineman but he did drive them for a TD to go up 10 to 3. Remember they were behind a team they were favored to beat by 40 something heading into halftime. I could see starting or playing him vs UTSA since the Roadrunners lost their star QB they are not very good but not start Nico or even play him in Gainesville where our lineman are jumping off sides and you're behind the sticks all night 1st & 15 and 2nd & 24 situations . That's hard enough for a seasoned QB but a Freshman you could have ruined his career. Also not sure if SEC is down as you say, USCe looked really good and better than last year UK will be as good or better. UGA faltered a little last year vs Kent State & Missouri but came back with a vengeance, I expect the same out of them this year. So I say its way too early to say the SEC is down they may be better this year top to bottom also Missouri beat K State yesterday. They will be a hard out playing them on the road.
