I think you’ll see a respectable step forward for the defense next year, followed by a significant jump in ‘24, when Josephs, Pearce, and West will be juniors and the class of dbs coming in next year have a season under their belt.

Honestly.....while we'd all hope next year is just a wash, repeat of this one, it's an excellent point on the development of Josephs, Pearce and West plus how fast those in the 2023 progress. 2024 is shaping up to be really interesting. Nico will have had 1 year in the system.....and the defense should be rounding into shape. Hard to wait....but it is what it is when you dig yourself a deep hole.

Wouldn’t bet my house on it but it would be fun to get another shot at them. I’m not bashful to give somebody credit when due. They are a really good football team with few weaknesses.
I agree. Living in Alabama, I keep my finger on the pulse of the Tide. When they lost to us they were saying "We'll take them on a neutral field, just wait". I support that sentiment. I'd say if we played Georgia 5 times, we might win 1. However a neutral field, the chance to watch film on what they did, the lack of a sudden downpour like what came up in Athens (I know, it rains on both sides of the field and both teams lost a fumble then). Who knows. I certainly don't want to sound like a cocky Bama fan, but I'd take a rematch and hope for the best. You just never know.

Absolutely...it might be 5:1....but I'd take it to be in the playoffs against GA for a second time. To me it's a win-win.....may be a good game, but recruiting would (I hope) blow up in that we get strong players at the right positions.

USC or TCU have to lose or we’re out. The committee would rather have 2 SEC teams than 2 Big Ten teams so the Michigan/OSU game doesn’t worry me

I’m pulling for Baylor and K-State. I like the Frogs, but I don’t find them compelling.

How great would it be to see Heupel vs. Lincoln Riley in the playoff?

OG OU Golden Boy vs. Big Game Bobby’s evil apprentice?

Tennessee vs. The coach that recruited away 5% of our roster before we could blink.

I’m not sure the scoreboard would go that high.

We are outside looking in, hoping for others to fail. Sucks but true, Our loss to Georgia hurt, we have nothing else to boost, TCU and USC (and Clemson) have ranked opponents and potential conference championships ahead. Michigan needs to beat OSU by a touchdown or get blown completely out.
Tennessee football’s playoff chances hurt by Saturday’s slate despite Oregon loss
We'll be fine. Fifth place with three week to go. The Michigan-Ohio State loser will fall below UT. Smash South Carolina & Vanderbilt and we are at least 4th in the final rankings, possibly 3rd.

ESPN will start saying "TN didn't play in the conference championship so not legit!" in 3...2...1...
We beat the top 2 teams in the West tho. Someone on the committee has a brain and will point these things out

The only thing causing people to fear being ranked behind OSU/Michigan loser is fear itself. It’s completely irrational.

If the vols happen to get in and beat whomever and beat Georgia most likely will go down as one of the most miraculous season, crazy thing with mostly pruiits kids, shows what real coaching does

They are. Considering what they lost to the draft this past year it’s unreal how good they are again. And it pains me to say that

This Tennessee team is as close to a miracle as anyone is likely to see.
Agreed. The national media doesn’t want to admit it tho. They want to name Kelly the COTY…..talk about the transfers and how bad it was when he showed up. Never mind they won a Natty 3 years ago. I don’t see how anyone with a brain can take Kelly over CJH for COTY. I mean Heup’s resurrected a laughing stock of a program to National relevance in 1.75 years. It’s like comparing apples and bananas

Hopefully you are correct but it is not irrational. You are counting on rational and logical thinking and no politics entering the picture and I have seen the opposite too many times. (Do we honestly think Cincinnati was one of the 4 best teams last year?) If that is a close game, you can count on a bunch of people pushing for both to get in. I’ve seen the Big 10 bias too many times. They are like vampires. They ain’t dead till you put a stake in their hearts. And look out if TCU and USC make it through the rest of the season unscathed as conference champs. We and the OSU-MI loser are in trouble then. The committee will use every excuse in the world to have an SEC-Big 10-Big 12-PAC 10 playoff. That’s what it was designed for originally. Pray for chaos.
I’m thinking we move ahead of TCU soon, whether they win or lose. Then we move ahead of the OSU/Michigan loser … we’re set up well as long as we win big the next 2 games.
Well no unfortunately no not happening no

Yes....I like your point, he turned around the TEAM this year.....I do think he deserves kudos for that. But I'll take turning a program around like CJH. If so it means he's competing every year....not year to year. Kelly still has a lot to prove.
I think the major difference is LSU won a national title is 2019. That speaks to the program turnaround aspect which is what I believe the media is covering.

even though we'd play for the championship in any other conference... including the SEC West division in our own conference this year

I can’t remember the specifics, but I seem to recall several „experts“ picking us to finish 4th in the SEC East preseason

LSU as a program starts with an easier path simply due to the absolute 5 star buffet of talent that is Louisiana/East Texas

You'd be hard pressed to find a better turnaround from one season to the next. LSU was a good story, but I don't think it compares to the extreme that TN has done it.

Here's the scary part, I think it's sustainable.....CJH has a great stable of QBs on paper, and Milton. My strong suggestion to him is the Defense. A serious jump in defense next year or after....game on.
I've been saying they gonna make a movie after we beat Georgia for the championship about our team!👀👀

But don’t pray for too much chaos 😂 we don’t want LSU to pull off a miracle
